Risk factors beyond a persons control mean things that are inherited. For example you cannot control your family history, your race, your gender, cogential defects (birth defects that are present when you are born). If you have a family history known for heart problems then this risk factor that is beyond your control. Also some races are more at risk for heart problems than others, so if you are one of these races you cannot control this risk factor, because it is inherited.

However Risk factors such as diet, smoking, and in most cases are environment can be controlled. For example we choose what we want to eat, and if we want to smoke or not. Those are controllable risk factors. The environment can also be controlled also, but that varies from person to person, depending if they are in a occupation that they are exposed to toxins. But more likely this would cause respiratory problems which later could develop into cardiovascular problems.Which risk factor for developing Cardiovascular disease is BEYOND a person's control?
Genetic predisposition is something no one can do anything about. But healthy life-style can delay the inevitable.
