What are the risks of birth control?

are there any side effects of it? me and my friend are having period issues and she was saying someone said there were risks involved..?

i would like to know what kindof risks. or the side effects. What are the risks of birth control?
I've been on many different kinds of pills and even the shots and they all have their own ricks, but i guess the most common side effects are spotting the middle of your cycle, and they all have a risk for blood clots but i have never heard of anything like that actually happeningWhat are the risks of birth control?
it depends, ive been on 6 different birth controls all of em have different side effects. Im kinda small so i'd always get sick and throw up in the morning with every new pack. Also it can either help you with acne and cramps or make them worse. Also some birth control makes you gain weight:((( Also some birth controls can make it harder to have sex, downer!!! um oh yea and sometimes different types can make you moody:( ALSO i used to have short periods but now they last forever.

Birth control pill vs the health risks?

why do women risk their own health to prevent haveing a baby, i can understand some situations but i do not think all the women that are on the pill are realy taking it because they NEED to. if anyone has seen the mad tv skit on the birth control pill i think they used yaz in the skit this is the kind of thing i am refuring to. i know it wont literaly do that to your body but you risk an awefull lot on your health when you take the pill, why do women take it anyway?? there might be something i am missing.Birth control pill vs the health risks?
people take the pill because even though there is a risk of these thing happening its very low. it better to take the chance than for someone to have a baby that they cant afford to take care of or not ready or willing to take care ofBirth control pill vs the health risks?
the risk is very, vey small. Side effects from taking the pill are rare, and happen to an extremely small percentage of women. There is actually more risk to a womans life while pregnant or dleivering a baby than there is while on the pill.
i wud think that the best answer for this is that it depends on each individual.............unless u have spent the time walking in another person's shoes, u DON'T know what is best for their situation. it DEFINATELY is better than sum other methods that younger girls/women use.....and is far less harmful in the longrun!!!!!!!!!!!

Risks: Birth Control. I have been taking them for a week. I have also been taking antihistamine...?

...and I have been feeling dizzy. Is there something in them that doesn't correspond with the each other? Am I poisoning myself? I have been really shaky and have had a high pulse. I read in the birth control side effect thing that the risk of diabetes is slightly higher. diabetes runs in my family, but only of women of an older age. My grandma just got it and she is 67. I am 15, and I have been eating a lot of sweets lately. Could that be why I am so shaky? I don't eat much, just a piece or two when I am really in the mood.

Please someone help me, and I only want answers from people who really know!!!Risks: Birth Control. I have been taking them for a week. I have also been taking antihistamine...?
If you are feeling dizzy, you really, really need to see a doctor, not just ask us on the internet. There are about a million and one reasons for dizziness, and we can't possibly tell from here.

The answer to your question is that no, I don't think there's any reason that birth control and antihistamines would work together in combination to make you dizzy. On the other hand, antihistimines can do that all by themselves, but regardless, there's no way to tell if it's the medication that's doing this. And yes, low blood sugar could also make you dizzy (diabetes causes HIGH blood sugar and if you are having symptoms from that, you need to see a doctor even more), but I have no idea if that's the cause. However, bottom line: ANY new symptom after starting a new medication is cause for another visit to the doctor.

Please call your own doctor. Okay?

Birth defect risks and birth control?

Well I've been on the pill for about 8 months now. I have never missed a pill, and I take it every single day at the same exact time. Still I'm growing a bit concerned about pregnancy. My breasts are swollen and tender, I've getting migraines, strange food cravings, nausea...and I'm sitting here thinking ';wait a minute, I've been through this before';.

My question is not ';could I be pregnant';, so please don't start responding in regards to my symptom list; my question is: If I AM preggers, what are the dangers of having continued the pill? What possible birth defects or complications may arise because of this?

I've stopped the pill and reverted back to condoms until I know for sure if I'm pregnant or not...but I've already miscarried twice in my young life...and would like to take the best care of this potential child by knowing my risks.Birth defect risks and birth control?
Its not impossible, but its unlikely. You get a lot of pregnancy symptoms when on the pill. Its perfectly normal. I went up a whole cup size when on BC.

As for birth defects, i dont know what science says, but my friend's mom was on BC for five months when she was pregnant with her, now she has MS and a slew of other health issues.

WHo knows. Ask your doctorBirth defect risks and birth control?
if you take the pilll like you say I dont think you are...and pills can cause bad migraines and all the stuff you've mentioned. That's why I had to stop taking it after 7 years.

Any risks factors with taking birth control?

taking birth control is like guys taking steroids.... becasue they are steroids...it can lead to abnormal hair growth and other side effects that are not too pleasantAny risks factors with taking birth control?
well, my sister takes the '; shot '; birth control..and it made her gain weight..but not really much.Any risks factors with taking birth control?
There are always ';risk factors'; when taking medications. Depending on what birth control method you choose whether it's the patch, pills, shots, IUD's, or the newest nuvaring. I work in a pharmacy and some side affects of ALL birth controls methods are break through bleeding, increaded or decreased blood loss during menstration, weight gain, weight loss, tenderness (vaginal or breast), risks of certain cancers (this risk increases if you smoke), heatattacks, blood clots, and even stroke. Another risk factor is the longer you are on birth control the harder it is to convieve when trying to concieve! But, some drugs even lessen cramping during or before your time of the month and lessen blood loss during menstration or even cease a period altogether. Recently Ortho Evra is proven to promote blood clots, strokes, and other harmful side affects. You should definately talk to your dr about any kinds of concerns you have on a particular drug or method! A word of advice...whatever method you choose, make sure you follow directions to a T, or you could actually become pregnant! I wish you the best!
It does increase your chances of cancer, you can read more in detail at the url below.
Yes there can be as with any medication. High blood pressure and smoking can inhance these risks. Namely blood clots, headaches. Read the inserts on the packages to see what else there is.
if taken for a long time yes it is bad for health
There is an increased risk of potentially fatal blood clots. The risk increases from 1 in 10,000 to 6-8 in 10,000. But the risk of getting blood clots during pregnancy is 1 in 200, so I think it's worth it. If you smoke, the risk is much, much higher.

  • What are risks of the birth control pill?

The most serious risk of taking birth control pills is the development of blood clots, which can be anywhere on your body (legs, heart vessels, lungs, brain), resulting in compromised circulation, heart attack, pulmonary embolus, or stroke. This risk is due to the estrogen component of the pill, and is severely increased by smoking, increased age, and certain associated diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Other side effects include weight gain, breast tenderness, nausea, skipped periods, and migraine.

On the other hand, there are several benefits of taking the pill. Aside from being almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy, it could also regulate your menstrual cycle and make them lighter, decrease abdominal cramps associated with your periods, decrease your chances of ovarian and uterine cancer, decrease your changes of getting non-cancerous breast masses, less chance of developing ovarian cysts, and improve acne.

Overall, only a small percentage of women who take the pill experience any significant side effects. What are risks of the birth control pill?
depends on the pill, your age and if you smoke

    weight gain

    breast tenderness

    headaches

    spotting between periods

    your periods may stop altogether

    blood clots

of course, some are more rare than others. What are risks of the birth control pill?
Well from what I experienced with my girl is that if you use birth control, you run the risk of still being pregnant..!!! (those dagum PILLS)..........They falsed advertised, I thought the pills were to PREVENT, not to actually HELP make a baby geesh!!!!
Other prescription drugs do not mix well with it - certain antibiotics, for example, will render birth control pills ineffective. Have you considered Depo-provera?

Birth Control for people with blood clot risks.?

My new girlfriend and I are exploring birth control options, however she is at risk for blood clots. Most of the birth control out there says they are not for people with risk of clots. Does anyone know if there is a birth control out there that is safe for her?Birth Control for people with blood clot risks.?
Lemme guess, you want your willy to feel everything even if you have to risk your girlfriend's life, right? Birth control IS NOT FOR WOMEN WHO ARE AT RISK FOR BLOOD CLOTS! It is just plain dangerous. It can KILL her. You're gonna have to use condoms or she's gonna have to use a diaphragm. But if she's your NEW girlfriend, you should both get tested for HIV and wait at least 6 months before you go in raw then get tested again.Birth Control for people with blood clot risks.?
I got a clot from the last birth control I tried. Nothing life threatening, it was caught in time but now I'm in this category too. I was told I had three options; condoms, IUD, or diaphragm. This was a few years ago though. If she has had a child then she can use the non-hormonal IUD. Tell her to speak with her doctor as they may have more options now. There are tons of brand names out there and more are added yearly.
That's something she'll really need to talk to a doctor about to determine her individual risk. Good luck, always use condoms LOL ;)
I too am at risk for clotting and my doctor recommended Mirena. It's an IUD.

Something that does not involve hormones like IUD or a diaphragm.
    Yes, condoms!

Yaz birth control? Pros, cons, risks, your experience?

Just wanting to get opinions from people who have taken Yaz birth control pill - the 24 day active, 4 inactive cycle. I'm looking for any good, bad, anything at all. Did it make you gain/lose weight? Make you moody? Stop your cramps? Did it really shorten your period? Was your period lighter? Any input is welcome!Yaz birth control? Pros, cons, risks, your experience?
ive been on it for a year now so here i go...

nope i never gained or lost weight i am stil the same i have been for years

nope didnt stop my cramps at all i still get them painfully doubled over

yes it shorted my period to a extent it helped clear my skin uo also it also helped regulate my periods.

i do though get nauseas when i start to re take it again and finish it for the month also it makes me really tired in the 7 day breakYaz birth control? Pros, cons, risks, your experience?
dont use them use natural family planning you can end up seriously harming yourself there have been many studys and results are not good
    Very good.

    -Lighter period

    -Almost no cramps

    -No weight gain

    -No mood swings

The actual length of the cycle is controlled by when you stop taking the non active pills and start with the active ones again.

Risks of starting birth control before period?

What are the risks of starting birth control before my period starts, almost another 2 weeks i think. I will wait until I get it, I am just curious of what will happen If I took it say tomorrow?

Yasmin, birth controlRisks of starting birth control before period?
For most women it would either delay your period for a few days up to the next time for your period, or it would cause break through bleeding and really get your whole cycle messed up. Thats why they say start your first pack right after your period and always take a pill without skipping or missing.

Im getting married soon and i wanted to know birth control options, risks and advice on what works... help?

Im getting married in 2 months. I been trying to decided over birth control options. I dont want to have kids for another 8-10 years. We might decided to not have any at all. I dont want to use the pill. (I dont like that it messes up the body) any herbs or tricks (if there are any, would be helpful). I will never abort my baby and if i did get pregnant then we would definitly accept our responsibilty. My fiance is really wonderful about this so anything you got we can take! THANKS!!!Im getting married soon and i wanted to know birth control options, risks and advice on what works... help?
I've been on low hormone BC pills for almost 7 years and have had no negative effects. Since no married couple likes to use condoms regularly, I'd say your choices are mostly limited to BC pills/patch/ring or an IUD. I mean, you could ask your husband to be to get a vasectomy, but you said you may want to have kids some day.Im getting married soon and i wanted to know birth control options, risks and advice on what works... help?
I would speak to your doctor about it cause their are so many methods out there and some have neg affects on you and some don't. I hear good things about the depo shot, the patch looks like a band aide on you, and then there is the old back up the pill and a condom. But it all depends on how your body does on what you get that will make you happy. I would really look into the shot.

  • Ok..im 13 yrs old and my mom wants to put me on birth control..what are the risks of this?

uhmm ok..are there any risks for being on birth control at 13?Ok..im 13 yrs old and my mom wants to put me on birth control..what are the risks of this?
Some risk of blood clots, but at your age, that shouldn't be a big deal unless you smoke. Also, you might gain 5 or so pounds, but that usually levels out after a few months. Your doctor can explain more of the risks and benefits.Ok..im 13 yrs old and my mom wants to put me on birth control..what are the risks of this?
As long as you have started your period, there are no risks that I know of. If you are worried, ask your doctor (you have to have a prescription for most birth control). I was put on pills at a young age to straighten out my periods and had no ill effects from it (that was 20 years ago).
there are no real risk involved
First of all, what is the reason for your mum wanting to put you on birth control? Skin problems, irregular periods, contraception? Either way you should think about what you want........ nobody should make you take something that you dont want to. I would speak to my doctor about side effects...being on the pill can cause high blood pressure among other things. I would read up on this and then discuss the dosage with your doctor as there are many different types.

Abortion as a Birth Control Method....Any Risks?

I get my girlfriend pregnant about every few months and we usually go over to the abortion clinic and get it sucked out. this has been going on for about 7 years and it is getting costly to say the least. we practice the Rythm Method quite effectively but sometimes it goes wrong...it is always her fault....is there any long term risk involved with this for her, but more importantly for ME?!Abortion as a Birth Control Method....Any Risks?
dude way to be heartlessAbortion as a Birth Control Method....Any Risks?
honey...im not going to go crazy on you and say abortion is murder, because im pro choice. But this is a bad question to ask. That is a very bad form of birth control...you cant keep doing that.....there will be some serious medical risks. There already are. just use protection...
its called a CONDOM!!!! they are freaking $3... little bit less of a dent in the wallet you f'n moron!!! IT IS NOT ALWAYS HER FAULT YOU MORON!! IT TAKES TWO TO MAKE A BABY!! see back in elementary school you have this class called Sex Ed. where they explain how to make a baby and what happens right? well if you remember back to those days it takes sperm (male) and an egg (female) to make a kid... therefore it is not her fault ALWAYS... GROW UP!!!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Every few months??? Even though I believe ABORTION is murder, it is her body and her choice. If she doesn't care what is going on with her body and she goes through with it, then she deserves the after effects...
Yeah, you're not even funny. Get a life- Frequent abortions can cause infertility for the woman. As for you, it is obvious that you're an idiot
ABORTION!?!? you should be ashamed!! especially if you know she is getting prego each time! use god damn protection!
    IF I WAS YOUR GF I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU...SERIOUSLY!!! YOU SOUND LIKE A WORTHLESS SELFISH BASTARD WHO BELONGS IN JAIL....TALKING LIKE THAT'; ITS HER FAULT!';

MEN LIKE YOU MAKE ME SICK!!
    Your such an idiot -.-
Are you serious? I think you might be lying. You know abortion is murder right?
    this isnt even funny.
This is a con. Don't fall for it.
    you're a ******* asshole...why didn't your mother suck YOU out with a vacuum?
    wtf is your problem
Abortion is NOT a birth control method. The rhythm method IS NOT either. You and your girlfriend should stop this behaviour- i dont believe you're tellin the truth anyway, you would have been investigated by now if it was the truth (unless you're in some backward country that believes thats ok...). Women who have multiple abortions face a much greater risk of experiencing the following complications.

    Uterine Perforation

Between 2 and 3% of all abortion patients may suffer perforation of the uterus. The risk is increased for women who have previously given birth and for those who receive general anesthesia at the time of abortion.

    Bladder Injury

This can cause peritonitis (an inflamed, infected lining of the abdomen), with all its pain, dangers and necessary reparative surgery.

    Bowel Injury

This will cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, blood in stool, peritonitis, and death if not treated quickly enough. A portion of the intestine may have been taken out, and a temporary or permanent colostomy may be put in your abdomen.

This can cause peritonitis (an inflamed, infected lining of the abdomen), with all its pain, dangers and necessary reparative surgery.

    Ectopic (Tubal) Pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy is any pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus. After an abortion you are 8 to 20 times more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy. If not discovered soon enough, an ectopic pregnancy ruptures, and you can bleed to death without emergency surgery. Statistics show a 30% increased risk of ectopic pregnancy after one abortion and a 160% increased risk after two or more abortions. There had been a threefold increase in ectopic pregnancies in the U.S. in the decade immediately following legalizing abortion (1970-1980).

    Effects on Future Pregnancies:

If you have an abortion, You will be more likely to bleed in the first three months of future pregnancies.

You will need more manual removal of placenta more often and there will be more complications with expelling the baby and the placenta.

Your next baby will be twice as likely to die in the first few months of life.

Your next baby will be 3 to 4 times as likely to die in the last months of his first year of life.

Your next baby is more likely to be born prematurely or with a low birth weight with all the dangerous and costly problems that entails.

    Failed Abortion

Sometimes an abortionist fails to evacuate the placenta, parts of the baby, umbilical cord or amniotic sac from the mother’s body causing pain, bleeding or a low-grade fever. Besides antibiotics and possible hospitalization, you may require additional surgery to remove these remaining pieces. Failure to successfully abort the unborn younger than 6 weeks is relatively common.

    Hemorrhage

One to fourteen percent of women require a blood transfusion due to bleeding from an abortion.

    Infection

    Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

PID is a potentially life threatening disease which can lead to an increase risk of ectopic pregnancy and reduced fertility.Of the 20-27% of abortion patients who have a chlamydia infection at the time of the abortion, 23% of them will develop PID within 4 weeks compared to the 5% of patients not infected with chlamydia.

    Laceration of the Cervix

About 5% of women suffer this during an abortion. This causes you to have nearly a 50/50 chance of miscarrying in your next pregnancy if it is not treated properly during that pregnancy.

    More Miscarriages Later

Women who have had two or more abortions have twice as many first trimester miscarriages in later pregnancies. There is a tenfold increase in the number of second trimester miscarriages in pregnancies that follow an abortion.

    Placenta Previa.

    Severe, Rapid Bleeding

    Sterility

After an abortion you may become sterile. This happens in 2-5% of women. The risk of secondary infertility among women with at least one induced abortion is 3-4 times greater than among women who have not aborted.

    Unrecognized Ectopic Pregnancy

    Death

The best record based study of death following pregnancy and abortion found that women who abort are approximately 4 times more likely to die in the following year than women who carry their pregnancies to term.

    Breast Cancer Risks Increase

Since the legalization of abortion, breast cancer rates have doubled, and continue to climb.

    More Deadly Breast Cancer

Not really worth being so complacent is it? Go to the sexual health clinic/doctor with your girlfriend and put a proper contraceptive plan in place such as the pill and condoms. Im not going to get on the topic of you saying its her fault because i think thats what you want- to try and anger people and im not biting. If you get your girlfriend pregnant and she decides to keep the baby one day you will be paying for the rest of your life.

Let it be known i am NOT anti-abortion but i AM anti-carelessness.

What are the risks of taking birth control?

Women who are over 35 and smoke or who have any of the following conditions should not take The Pill:

    * History of heart attack or stroke

    * Blood clots

    * Unexplained vaginal bleeding

    * Known or suspected cancer

    * Known or suspected pregnancy

    * Liver disease

Women who are under 35 and smoke, have migraines, gallbladder disease, hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, elective surgery, a history of blood clots, liver or heart disease may not be able to take The Pill. Your clinician or doctor can decide.

Women who use The Pill have a higher risk of heart attack and stroke. The effects of The Pill on breast cancer are still unknown. The Pill lowers a woman's chance of developing ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

    Side Effects

As the body adjusts to hormonal changes created by The Pill, women often experience some minor side effects, including:

    * Irregular bleeding or spotting

    * Nausea

    * Breast tenderness

    * Weight gain and/or water retention

    * Spotty darkening of the skin

    * Mood changes

Side effects usually disappear after 2-3 cycles. If your side effects are bothersome after 2-3 cycles or if heavy bleeding occurs, continue taking your pills and call the clinic for an appointment to talk about your prescription.

    Drug Interactions

The effectiveness of the oral contraceptives are lowered when taken with certain medications, including antibiotics, anti-seizure, tuberculosis, and migraine medications. If you are taking any medications, tell your clinician. When taking medications that may interfere with The Pill, consider adding a backup method of birth control, like condoms and spermicide. As with all drugs, it is useful to inform all your medical providers if you are using hormonal birth control. What are the risks of taking birth control?

All women taking oral contraceptives (BC pills) face some risks. Smoking (at any age) increases risks of blood clots (potential cause of stroke). Other risks include

The best way is for your mother to discuss all this with her doctor directly.

Some health risks may still exist for users of OCs. These include the following:

    * High doses of estrogen may contribute to formation of blood clots that can result in heart attacks and strokes. For the vast majority of woman taking OCs, the amounts of estrogen in today's OCs pose no risk of heart attack or stroke. However, the risk apparently increases dramatically in women who smoke. Other factors that increase the risk are:

    o %26gt;35 years of age

    o hypertension

    o diabetes

    o high cholesterol

    * It is recommended that women older than 35 years of age who smoke do not use OCs.

    * OC users may be at increased risk of developing cervical cancer. These women should receive a yearly examination of cervical tissue, especially if they have been using OCs for at least 5 years.

    * Women who have used OCs for longer than 4 years are at increased risk of developing benign liver tumors, although this condition is rare. The tumors disappear if use of the OC is discontinued.

Are there dangers/risks in attempting to get pregnant after taking birth control?

No, I've read that it is fine. The only problem is that your cycles are likely to be irregular once you stop taking the pill and you don't always start to ovulate right away. So, you might have some difficulty in conceiving until your cycles regulate. Are there dangers/risks in attempting to get pregnant after taking birth control?
Not that I know off, I got pregnant when I was on birth control and my baby was fine. Are there dangers/risks in attempting to get pregnant after taking birth control?
my wifes doctor told her to wait a cycle, not sure why though
i think my doctor said something about like how your baby wouldn't be normal because the birth control is trying stop you from ovulating while you have a baby trying to grow.

What are the risks of having a marina (birth control)?

THOU SHALL SMELL OF FISH MORE THAN EVER. TIE UP AT THE DOCK.What are the risks of having a marina (birth control)?
    A ';mirena'; can be very effective. My best friend has one, doesn't get her periods and loves it. Some people still get light bleeding during their period time. There is a tiny chance of infection. My Gyno said it was ';God's gift to women';
I think it is gonna be expensive to buy a marina and having all the animals on birth control will cause the marina to fail. I don't recommend it.
You will get dinghies in your vadge.

  • What are the risks and benefits of agricultural biological control?

benefits: costs, you would not spend a much money on pesticides/herbicides .

crop quality: your crops/animals would be in better condition because they are not competing with pests for food/resourse etc

Time saving : you would technically have ot spend less time in trying to help your crop/animals (as they are theoretically healthier

money for crops/animals: you may be able to get more money for your crop/animals because they are in better condition and there are ';no chemicals'; eg organic.

    disadvantages:

effectiveness: biological controls are not often 100% effective at killing/supressing or whatever its supposed to be doing. so you many always have to spray/immunise etc despite having biological controls

over time the biological control agent becomes less effective due to a variety of reasons (increased resistance, change of host, etc).

Spread: the biological control may spread into other hosts (other than the pest) and cause major problems, it could also then spread from that particular field and onto neigbouring properties (who probalbly would not be very happy)

cost: it may actually cost MORE for the biological control to be tested, treated etc to the point its actually more expensive than traditional methods of pest/weed control

Other side affects: there could be other side affects which affect your crops/ animals that was not anticipated. What are the risks and benefits of agricultural biological control?
Risk is runoff into the water table. You could be drinking bug spray.

Benefits The bugs aren't, getting our soybeans. I would like the bugs to get more beans. but that's just me.

Are there any health risks of taking birth control pills and...?

Are there any health risks of taking birth control pills and ';the patch'; at the same time? Just curious. No rude answers or bad comments! Are there any health risks of taking birth control pills and...?
Yes. Taking two kinds of birth control at the same time may result in serious side effects. There is a certain amount of hormones in each contraceptive and by you doubling them may cause serious problems. I wouldn't suggest it. Talk to your doctor. Are there any health risks of taking birth control pills and...?
Yes, there are many health risks if you take multiple birth control methods. Each contraceptive has a different formula - hormones and strategies - that affect your body. Mixing these together can result in major mood swings, loss in sex drive (patch especially), weight change, nausea, headaches, and other symptoms that may lead to something much worse. I would suggest to take the birth control pills and just remember to use a condom!

Remember to always just ask your doctor for advice on picking the right birth control method for you. And be safe! :)
well you shouldn't because both of them have a hormone dose of estrogen and to much might cause body problems

plus the the patch makes you lose your sexual drive and in most cases will cause you gain wheight

    you only one for contceptiond

if it were me use the birth control shot you only have to go in every three months
Yes! very bad. You increase substantially the risk of blood clots, and you increase greatly your exposure to estrogen. It will also interfere with moods, most likely.

Risks and benefits of the birth control pill?

im young, my age will not be shared, but i want to know what will exactly happen if i take birth contorl (other than just prevent pregnancy)Risks and benefits of the birth control pill?
b/c is a hormone that your body already naturally produces, but this is just constant and varying levels to prevent pregnancy or control periods. There are benefits like clearing up acne, knowing when your period is coming, less cramps and lighter flow. Nothing bad will happen. Sometimes people can get moody on certain brands, but there is many out there you can try.Risks and benefits of the birth control pill?
i'm on the patch and everytime i switch to a new one i throw up the next day and also my breasts got very sore
THis would be something to discuss with your doctor. And, of course, all women are different, and react to the pill differently.

If you are still a teenager, going onto the pill before your own hormones have stablized may not be a great idea ... but again, it's something to discuss with the doctor.

In general, unless you have specific health problems that increase the risk (i.e., you smoke or have migraines or liver disease) the health benefits outweigh the risks. The pill lowers your risk of several kinds of cancer (ovarian and uterine), usually reduces PMS, blood loss and cramping during your periods, may help with acne. OTOH, some women gain weight on it, or have erratic spotting.
I've been on BC for almost a year now and I went from a D cup to a DD, I know most girls would love to have bigger boobs but I hate them
Don't only rely on it to prevent pregnancy - its not 100%, so seeing as your young use condoms too!!

It will regular your cycles, and probably help with heavy periods (if you have them)
When I first got married, I tried birth control, I got really bad head aches, and felt sick, I took them for two months

  • Are there any risks of alcohol consumption while using birth control pills?

Studies have shown that alcohol does not decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills.

Conversely, studies have shown that taking the birth control pill affects the way women's bodies process alcohol, leading to higher blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) and intensifying the effects of intoxication.

While alcohol has no direct effect on the birth control pill's ability to prevent pregnancy, drinking it can indirectly decrease the pill's effectiveness if it interferes with a woman's ability to take the pill at approximately the same time each day or if it causes her to throw-up shortly after taking the pill. In general, alcohol can impair one's ability to act prudently, be that responsibly taking daily medication such as the birth control pill, using a condom to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or choosing with whom and in what ways to become intimate.

Drinking alcohol keeps your liver busy detoxifying the alcohol so your hormone levels, especially estrogen, can be higher for a few days. If you drink everyday, even a glass of wine, your body could be used to the alcohol, so if you stop drinking, your estrogen levels may drop and trigger spotting. Are there any risks of alcohol consumption while using birth control pills?

Is there a security risk to adding ';ActiveX controls';?

I keep getting prompted that I should add ActiveX controls to better view videos from time to time. My system keeps giving me to option to add or not. I think I read somewhere not to do it.

Does anybody know the story? Is there a security risk to adding ';ActiveX controls';?
An active-X control is an executable just like any other program that you can download. And just like any other downloaded program, active-X can be used for malicious purposes as well as useful ones.

Many website's active-X will deliever to your computer%26gt;%26gt; spyware and adware, often by misleading the visitor into downloading an active-X control that the website claims is necessary for the site to ';work';.

Only let active-X be downloaded from reputable websites that you trust 110% and never allow any active-X control to be downloaded that is not ';Signed';. Always err on the side of caution when downloading or allowing the use of active-X controls. And always try to use the website first without the active-X. Many times it will ';play'; just fine!

And never lower your Internet Explorer security settings in the Internet Zone below the default settings to allow an active-X control or download. That is ';Medium'; for IE-6 and ';Medium-High for IE-7. Almost all reputable websites will work fine with the default settings. Doing so is a huge security risk.Is there a security risk to adding ';ActiveX controls';?
Most are safe, however Active-X is the single biggest security flaw in Internet Explorer. If you do not trust the site I would not install the active X control. I highly recommend using Firefox which does not natively support Active-X.

Birth control pills...an ovum is not produced, what are the risks?

I've been planning to have sex and so I started taking birth control pills. I know they would stop the ovulating, but suppose that an ';accident'; occured and somehow I had sperm inside the uterus, what are the chances of me getting pregnant?

low that's the point if it didn't work they wouldn't be popular. the pill works in ways other than producing no ovum (changing the uterine lining, for one) so it's not likely. just don't miss any pills

Birth Control Risks? Food Allergies? HELP!?

Alright, so this question is not affecting me directly, but rather my girlfriend. I'm extremely worried about her health, her mother and her have decided to place her on generic birth control. My main concern is her food allergies, and possible conflicts with the medicine..

    Her allergies include:

    Eggs

    Nuts

    Seafood (not sure what exactly)

    Straberrys

I know there have been complications with birth control proven through studies, but I have yet to find any information on food allergies possibly conflicting with medicines. I love her very much, and to be honest we have not had sex yet, and if putting her on BC is something that has to be done in order to do so, then i'd rather not have sex.. Can someone please give me some information?

I have never heard of food allergies and BC conflicting with one another, but if you are really worried she should look into an IUD, I have a friend who has to take anti-seizure meds and those conflicted with any BC pill she would take and in her case an IUD was the best option, but either way her doctor will know what will work best for her, good luck!

Honestly I have never heard of BC causing problems with food allergies. Reactions with other medications and medical problems yes, but not food allergies. She should be fine. Since she has to go to a doctor to get a prescription for it anyway, she should discuss this with her doctor. But I honestly don't see why she can't take them.

    Birth control risks?

how bad is birth control for your health?Birth control risks?
As the statistics show, the risks associated to pregnancy, labor and delivery greatly surpass the risks linked to the use of any method of birth control; this includes oral contraception, intrauterine devices [IUD's] and abortion before the 18th week of gestation. In other words, it's safer to use birth control than to give birth.Birth control risks?
It depends totally on what form of birth control, also bare in mind that some birth control options aren't just about the risks but also side effects that many doctors are either ignorant of or not willing to communicate with patients. It is amazing how many doctors, even OB/GYN's are ignorant of all the risks, side-effects and issues involved with different birth control options.

You'd have to be more specific on what form of birth control you are asking about, as we could be here all day going through just the better known risks and issues of all the different birth control options.

I threw up one birth control pill in about 6 1/2 hrs. and had unprotected sex that night am I at risk?

Stomach virus has been going around and I am pretty sure I had it. I had alot of pain and several times of vomiting and I am not sure how long the pill takes to absorb it is ortho tri cycln. I did have unprotected sex around 10 pm took my pill at the same time around 9:30 pm and threw up around 4am. Am I flipping out for no good reason? Has this happened to any one before?I threw up one birth control pill in about 6 1/2 hrs. and had unprotected sex that night am I at risk?
Why have sex if you're sick? I know that when I have a stomach virus I'm lucky if I think about moving, let alone having sex. I can't really answer your question, it was unprotected and anytime you have sex protected or not there's a chance you could get prego, some have higher chances than others. Its a possibilty I supposeI threw up one birth control pill in about 6 1/2 hrs. and had unprotected sex that night am I at risk?
Your pill keeps your eggs from getting ready and releasing. Not taking one will not automatically release an egg, but it may in the next few days and sperm can last for a few days inside you so you may want to go get the plan B pill plus you are not protected in the next few days either.
What kind of BC, I know that my orthro had a small packet in it that said if you X colored pill then you are/are not at risk. However if you took the pill at 9:30 and threw up at 4:00am you did not throw up the pill. It was already in your system, no worries.

    yes, you are.

    what's your hurry??

You should go through two cycles to know how your body is reacting before you have unprotected sexIv been on birth control for 6 nights now. i had unprotected sex on my 6th night, am i at risk?
I doesn't take two months before contraceptive pills become effective.

    There are two possible scenarios.

If you started with a hormone pill on the first day of your period you will be protected from pregnancy pretty much right away.

If you started during your period on the sugar pills then you need to have taken 7 hormone pills before it becomes effective. So for the first 7 days you may want to use a backup method of contraception eg: condoms.

Personally, I think you will be absolutely fine.

Check the factsheet insert that came with your pills for more information, or talk to your doctor.

hello i was always told a month to two months for birth control to kick in and again if when you get penis and vaginia in the same sentece or around each other it is called pre-*** and yes they is a big chance you could become pregnant and yes you can get pregnant now so get a box of condoms till it kicks in so might want to see a doctor for a blood test as they show up early if you miss a period cause as soon as you think you are pregnant you are supposed to stop taking pills

i was on pills for almost 3 years for health reason and one day i was going for surgery and well i was 12 weeks pregnant but she was healthy
Yes you are at risk. Your birth control pills come with a package insert that explain, in detail, how long it takes for them to become effective. The length of time would depend specifically on what type of pill you were on but it is usually between one to two months.
OMG did you not listen to the DR when you went to get the pills???

it does take a month or two for the meds to get into your system completely...

you will still need to use protection..DUH!

i cant believe you are this eager to have sex...wait a bit to make sure you wont get pregnant cause it sounds like you cant hanlde your self very well right now much less a baby..GEEZ!!
My best advice: quit having sex if you're not ready to get married and have a baby.

Or are you wanting the wonderful joy of deciding whether you want to abort or adopt?

If you ';can't get pregnant now'; then quit doing what causes it.
It takes about 30 days for birth control to fully start working from what I hear. so be careful.
they recommend another form of birth control (condoms) for atleast one cycle... 30 days. so yes hun you could be pregnant
yes birthcontrol is not really affective till like 2nd month.
Yep, it takes BC up to 2 months to be fully effective.
birth control takes 2 weeks or so to kick in.

I have factor 5 laden gene, how can i get good birth control without high risks of a blood clot?

just wondering cuz im not gonna use a condom foreverI have factor 5 laden gene, how can i get good birth control without high risks of a blood clot?
Here's a bunch of good info on Factor V Leiden and birth control:

    http://www.fvleiden.org/ask/23.html

A non-hormonal method sounds to be the safest. Maybe try a diaphragm? Or, try a progestin-only contraceptive (no estrogen)... they make progestin-only pills, but I'm pretty sure those aren't as effective as the regular pill. Also, Depo-Provera is progestin-only.I have factor 5 laden gene, how can i get good birth control without high risks of a blood clot?
you shouldn't use birth control with estrogen - most kinds of pills, nuva ring and the patch.

progesterone-only methods are an option - mini-pill, depo, mirena iud, implanon.

The paragard iud doesn't have any hormones in it.
    why not use condom

  • I just started birth control pills and i also use nicotine gum, does this carry the same risk as if i smoked?

i read all kinds of scary stuff in the pamphlet, and i am not sure if the risks are the same because they always refer to ';smoking'; rather than ';using nicotine' so i was hoping forsome clarification. i am a 35 yo female, so i am in a higher risk group. the birth control was prescribed to help me get rid of a bout of acne i am going though right now. my other options would be accutane (which i dont want to take considering it is one of the most toxic meds!) and milicycline (which i cannot take now because i am in the process of getting lazer hair removal so i need to wait until my sessions are over, which will be about 6 more months! i tend to get more ';cystic' acne so topical stuff only helps a tiny bit.... any advice or insight?I just started birth control pills and i also use nicotine gum, does this carry the same risk as if i smoked?
I am pretty sure the risk is the same. It is NICOTINE in smoking that is harmful to your body.I just started birth control pills and i also use nicotine gum, does this carry the same risk as if i smoked?
You may have to use something else. The pill does not help with acne. That's a myth.

As for the nicotine, yes, you'll be at a higher risk for a cardiac event or stroke while taking the pill and the nicotine gum at the same time. You shouldn't be on the pill for that alone. I'm shocked your doctor prescribed the pill knowing this.

If I were you, I would wait for six months and take the milicycline. The wait will be worth it because you'll live longer. Taking the pill now is too risky and your doctor is no good for prescribing it.
Honey, if you want to smoke, it's will to be risking your health condition, if you taking birth control. If I were you to talk your doctor before you taking a birth control. Make sure everything safe.

What's the risk of being pregnant if I am late for some of my birth control pills?

I take Yasmin Birth Control Pills.

I only finished my period a week ago, and started on a new packet of pills either sunday or monday. I tend to be a bit late for them often, but only like within 1-3 hours late. However, I did miss one and didnt take it until the next day on the last packet I had, which was in the third row I believe.

I know yesterday a small amount of his *** went in, but should I really be worried? What's the risk of being pregnant if I am late for some of my birth control pills?
Birth control pills are only 99% effective when TAKEN CORRECTLY. Skipping pills is not taking them correctly. When you haven't taken them correctly for an entire full cycle, you can't have unprotected sex until you have taken them corectly for a full cycle.

    Please help me, I am ready to cry. I have absolutely NO self control, sometimes I sneak food so no one knows how I have a food problem. I think i eat twice as much food and junk food as i should, probably more. I LOVE to eat, but at the end of the day, I feel terrible about myself and what I ate and I keep telling myself ';Ok, tomorrow I will start eating healthier and eat less.';

I have been telling this to myself for 8 months now, every night, but I can't stop. I just keep eating and eating and eating.

I have scoliosis and the doctor said its critical that I keep my weight down I this age. Right now I do not appear as fat, but I and my mom do know that i could lose maybe 6-7 pounds.

I am really focused on school so I don't exercise AT ALL, but please don't tell me about exercise because I really don't have the time. I really just need to focus on my diet right now.

******** DONT EAT RIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED! it makes you gain a ton more pounds!
Listen, i LOVE to eat also but at one point you have to think about your health and figure. It's not easy, in fact, its extremely hard but you can do it. It gets easier as your body gets used to not eating a lot. Nothing anyone will say will change the way you eat because you already know what has to be done you just need to be stronger and do it. The amount of time you spend eating you can exercise, don't be lazy.
Look; its okay i use to feel like that too! Everything i saw that was edible; into my mouth it would go; causing me to rapidly gain weight over the years. I use to cry alot! ALOT! I am 5'3'' and was about 183 lbs and now 5 months later im about 140 lbs. One thing is first starving yourself and throwing up is NEVER the way to go. I use to think this; and i did it once; but when you starve yourself, your going to end up eating one way or another, but you'll OVEReat causing you to gain alot of weight because of your metabolism. So you do have to eat.And throwing up is just gross, think of what you teeth will look like? Not a pretty sight huh? So just diet and exercise.Dont start one day to another, plan it about 2 weeks ahead, and talk to your mom about, even though its kind of embarrasing:(
It seems like eating is more of a coping mechanism for you. Food can be addictive just like anything else out there, drugs, video games, alchohol, anything. Ask yourself this: Are you eating whenever something bad happens? Are you eating to make yourself happy whenever you're feeling down? If you are chances are you need help beyond just dieting and exercise. There is NOTHING WRONG with admiting that you have a problem that you can't manage, and you are eventually gonna need the support of your mom to help you through this (If she isn't supportive then she isn't a real mom and you should find a support group instead.) Take it from someone who's been down that road several times back and forth, get professional help.

What is my risk of developing a blood clot if I go on birth control?

I'm 20 years old, I walk at least 2 miles a day, I do not smoke, and I'm in very good health (I rarely get sick and I have never had any medical problems at all). I want to start using the pill for many reasons, including to help me with my period and I want to be protected from an unwanted pregnancy. I would like to try YAZ because I've heard it works really well. My main concern is the risk of developing a blood clot. What are the chances of me developing a blood clot if I decide to take YAZ? Is there another HBC that I could try that would lower my chances of developing a blood clot? What is my risk of developing a blood clot if I go on birth control?
If you don't smoke and are healthy risk is probably low. And I think that Yaz is a lower dose isnt it?

But be aware there is a risk. I heard about the risks, and the statement that ';women over 35 shouldn't smoke and take the pill'; due to added risk of clots.

I developed DVT (clot in my leg) at age 30. Dr. said birth control caused it. There is a risk with everything I know and I am not trying to detour you from taking it but I always tell people, I was like most people who didn't think those risk factors would apply to me especially being so young and healthy but it still happened. The good news, I survived the clot, the bad news I will be on blood thinner rest of my life and no birth control ever again. (bad news for my hubby, he had to get a vasectamy).

But you should discuss all of this with your doctor for sure. And do some research on your own even. What is my risk of developing a blood clot if I go on birth control?
if you are not over weight and are a non-smoker then the chances are pretty low.
that the risk with the pill... talk to your doctor about it///

What are the risks or side effects of birth control?

well...like what are the benfits and like will i gain weight or be really moody if im justs starting it upWhat are the risks or side effects of birth control?
    Hi,

The side-effects are different for every woman and it also depends which pill you are on. When I started taking Microgynon I experienced severe depression and mood swings. However, one short appointment with my doctor and i was switched onto another pill Marvelon which I have had no side effects at all. I have been using the pill for over a year now and haven't experienced weight gain at all, in fact I have lost weight but that could just be down to healthy eating.

    The minor side effects are:

    * Headaches. For me I don't get headaches anymore than when I didn't take the pill.

    * Nausea. I have never experienced this.

*Breast tenderness. Again, it is no more painful than before I started taking the pill.

    * Weight gain. None for me.

    * Light Spotting. I have also never experienced this.

Give the contraceptive pill a go and if you find that you have any unpleasant side-effects make an appointment with your GP to switch pills, its basically just trial and error as the pills effect all women differently.

I hope this helps. What are the risks or side effects of birth control?
    irregular periods.

    drastic mood swings.

    bloating.

    cramping.

    weight gain.

it'll take about three months for your body to get regular, but guess what, when you get off of them, it's just the same as when you started them, except for you can go without a period for 6 months or more!!!!

there are no benifits really. if you don't want to get pregnant, use condoms or don't have sex.

    doesn't that sound fun?
    irregular menstrual bleeding

nausea, weight gain, headaches, dizziness, and breast tenderness

Missed 1 day of Birth control, took the pill next day, am I at risk of being pregnant?

I've been taking Yazmin BC, this is my 2nd month using it and I had so many things on my mind , have been so stressed out lately and sick! i forgot to take my pill yesterday! once i remembered i took the pill today. I'm just concerned since I had sex with my BF the day before I missed my pill and he ejaculated in me, that I might get pregnant? MY period should start on Oct 22nd I just need some advice please help I'm a nervous wreck!Missed 1 day of Birth control, took the pill next day, am I at risk of being pregnant?
Just answering from personal experience: I missed my pill for a day and now I am about to deliver in a month, I was on Yaz and had only been taking it for a month...Missed 1 day of Birth control, took the pill next day, am I at risk of being pregnant?
Oh and I also took ';Plan B'; and my BF little swimmers as told by his DR weren't strong enough, well that was one powerful swimmer!

Well your suppose to wait til you have been taking the pill for at least 3 months to have unprotected sex or for the pill to be working effectively. The one pill shouldn't make a difference. As long as you took it today like your suppose to when you miss a pill.
it's quite unlikely if it's just the one that's missed, but things can happen,

  • Is there a Birth Control that won't cause Migraines or increase your risk of stroke?

After I went on mine a few years ago I noticed my headaches got much worse and moved from the back and top of my head to the front (temples and eyes also), I was diagnosed as having Migraines. But I found out recently that if headaches are worse after going on BC this puts you at greater risk for a stroke. These as well as anuerisms run in my family. I'm currently on Low Ogestrel 28. Is there a milder BC?Is there a Birth Control that won't cause Migraines or increase your risk of stroke?
It's the estrogen in combined hormonal birth control that is associated with increased risk for migraines and stroke, so you may want to consider progestin-only methods such as progestin-only pills (sometimes called ';mini-pills';), Implanon, the Mirena IUD, or depo-provera.

Also, be aware that combined hormonal birth control is only contraindicated if you get migraines with aura. It's not clear from your question if you get aura.

I have never seen anything proving birth control increases your risk for aneurysm (what kind of aneurysm? Brain? Aortic?); I wonder if you're confusing it with the risk of blood clots. However, any family history is something you should discuss with the prescribing doctor.

I'm 19 and on birth control. Can I smoke ciggarettes since the risks are usually for women over 35?

You shouldn't smoke in the first place. Do you even know that the hell you're doing to your body? Would you like to see gruesome pictures of your organs after you smoke?

No one is stopping you from doing anything but although the risks of having a complication from the pill because of cigarettes usually happen to women over 35 that doesn't mean that you can't get lung cancer from smoking at anyage, it only takes one cigarette to cause cancer.I'm 19 and on birth control. Can I smoke ciggarettes since the risks are usually for women over 35?
you can. you are still at risk tho and i wouldn't recommend it. just because the risks are usually for women over 35 it doesn't mean they can't happen to you. smoking is a terrible habit anyways. please don't.
I don't care about the birth control part. Smoking cigarettes is always a risk to your health. So please, quit if you smoke if you do not want to get lung cancer.

    Controlled risk taking/sensation seeking?

I'm writing a paper about why people undertake high-risk sports in relation to controlled risk taking/sensation seeking. What are some psychological (medical, official, etc) terms that could be applied? Or any ideas in general? Thanks.Controlled risk taking/sensation seeking?
I've heard talk of things like type1, and type 2 personalities as applied to risk taking. i was a paratrooper in the service. i didn't think about it either way, to me it was just a cool rush.Controlled risk taking/sensation seeking?
Many people who participate in high risk activities have not yet come to terms with their own mortality OR reject conventional wisdom ( in other words, they do not internalize the fears of others)

I would guess that some of these people have a hidden death wish, feel invincible or just enjoy marching to a different drum.

    1. What are the primary sources of risks to security in organiozations with Good internal control?

Employee malfeasance. Even with good controls in place a knowledgeable employee in a position of trust is a company's biggest nightmare.1. What are the primary sources of risks to security in organiozations with Good internal control?
Poor communication between the IT and IM departments. You can have top solid Recordkeeping, but if you have a leaky intranet site, or other online tools, there's more room for exposure.

Corporate espionage is also a biggie!

Do the pros outweight the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?

I am concerned it terms of the residue. I have a three year old that plays outside and also a vegetable garden and berry bush. However, I am extremely concerned about EEE and WNV. I live in the northeast where there seems to be enough infected mosqiutos.Do the pros outweight the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?
No! Okay, im not a tree-hugger or anything, BUT THAT STUFF IS TOXIC! If you have a three year old, it could cause him to be ill. Also, that doesn't only kill mosquitoes. It kills many different bugs! My advice: bug repellent. the stuff with DEET works best, but that's the same as spraying chemicals in your yard for your three-year old. There are other brands that work well to, although I haven't been up in a mosquito hot-zone for a while. Also, dump out all standing water souces in your yard. even an upterned bottlecap has been found to be home to mosquito larvae, so be rigouros. BUT DON';T SPRAY!!Do the pros outweight the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?
Definitely not. First of all, your area should not be infested with infected mosquitoes. Most infectious ones are in tropics, where you need to worry about west nile (though it's true, there was a report it was found in NYC, but far from infested), malaria, dengue fever, and so on. Those are with different kinds of mosquitoes, and cannot survive cold climate. If you still want to avoid mosquito bite, you can use repellent made with natural ingredients (such as from Thursday Plantation, Jason, etc), or use essential oil of CITRONELLA (lemony smelling geranium). Other people in the tropics I met use olive oil or fresh lime juice.

I also hope you don't use pesticide/herbicide for your garden, as they are even more toxic, and might leave residue.
How about planting these plants (like some geraniums or Plectranthus etc) that mosquitoes dont like. you know, they smell quite nice, but tey repell bugs.

And what is most important, mosquitoes generally dont fly much far. so the point is that (unless u are living just next to a water table or wetland) that you make sure there is no stilll water whetre they can lay eggs - that is a vase, a garden pond, a bowl with stale water, reservoir of rainwater unless s covered mesh etc. in your garden and encourage neibors to do the same - this way you can eliminate them - mosquitoes wouldnt fly far just to your yard.

btw are u sure u have wnv-carrying mosquitoes in your area? doesn seem right to me.

I've been taking birth control pills for years. Do they increase my risk for developing breast cancer?

Taking birth control pills can increase your risk for developing breast cancer- a very slight increased risk that disappears in women who have stopped them for over 10 years.

  • Risk of pregnacy when first starting on ';birth control pill?';?

So my new girlfriend and I had sex yesterday afternoon. She said she is on the pill and has been for the past 2 weeks (roughly). What are the chances that if I ejaculated inside of her that she would get pregnant. No I don't know what kind of pill she is taking or as to how often she takes it? Does anyone know generally when birth control pills begin being affective and what my chances are of her being pregnant? She starts her cycle next week...Should I wait and find out if she is regular or should i make her take pregnacy test/morning after pill? Please help any opinions appreciatedRisk of pregnacy when first starting on ';birth control pill?';?
As with any birth control nothing is 100% so you still have to be careful regardless.Risk of pregnacy when first starting on ';birth control pill?';?
She really should have waited a month and you guys should have used back up until the pill is effective. She should call her doc before taking a morning after pill. Its too early for a pregnancy test. A pregnancy test while on the pill might not be accurate. Pregnancy oldds are probably still pretty low.
In order for birth control to take affect, she HAS to be on it for AT LEAST three months. Just because she's on birth control doesn't mean you can have unprotected sex right off. There's a very good chance she's pregnant.

Get her to a clinic and get blood work done. I don't trust pregnancy tests, they don't always work. Going to the doctor gives you a more secure feeling... doctor knows best.

good luck, next time.. don't be stupid!
If she is on the Pill, usually the packet recommends waiting one week after starting the Pill for the contraceptive effect to kick in.

But really - you should have asked this question *before* you had unprotected sex. What if we had all answered ';you need to wait one month';?

And if she is your ';new'; girlfriend, I would hope that you are both free of STDs because the Pill won't protect you from chlamydia, herpes, syphilis etc etc etc.

Take some responsibility for your sexual activity and make sure your girlfriend does likewise - because you really shouldn't be having kids...
it takes 6 weeks to get in your system. and even missing it for one day increases risk of getting pregnant. so you better make sure she stays on top of taking it (same time every day)

just use a condom you're better off that way because i've known plenty of people get pregnant on the pill.
My gynocologist told me it takes a whole month for it to be affective. but i would always use protection no matter what because i was on birth control for 3 years and was takin them regularly and got pregant. so be careful.
The doctor will recommend you use an alternative form of protection at least for the first month to be sure you're completely protected. If you were my bf and you 'made' me take the morning after pill, i'd say so long. You should wait...and next time use a condom. Only abstinence is 100% effective against pregnancy.
usually depends on the pill...some can take 7 days and others can take up to 30 days...but you should always use a back up plan....I was on the same birth control for five years and now im 39 weeks prego...be sure she does take her birth control on a regular basis and if she does miss a pill make sure to take it asap or if its the next day depending on the type of pill you can double up the next day....tell her to read the little info pack that comes with each new pack of pills...
I just started back on birth control and was wondering the same thing. I asked my doc and most pills these day are effective after the first 7 days, which is good news for you and I both. From what I understand there is a few brands that take 30 days. I take orthotricyclene lo and its a 7 dayer. Just find out the what kind of pill she on and don't sweat it too bad just yet. Good luck.
It takes a month for it to kick in so she could be. You can take the morning after pill up to 72 hrs after sex. If you take a pregnancy test now it would just show up negetive because it is way too soon. Have to wait 2 weeks after missed period for results.

This shows you that you should always use a condom!!!
If you arent sure, and if birth control is new to her, go get the morning after pill just to be safe. Planned parenthood for sure. and yes her birth control pills take 2 weeks to kick in.

I suggest that she uses the Nuva Ring instead of pills because pills need to be remembered every single day and thats stressful. the Nuva Ring is a flexable ring that is inserted into the vagina and left in for 3 weeks and then she goes without the ring for a week to have a period. you can have sex during the fourth week without the ring during her period and she is still protected against pregnancy. If you have sex while the ring is in during the weeks she is not on her period, you can either leave it in during sex, or if it bothers you or her, it can be left out for up to but no longer than 3 hours while you have sex.

It's SOOO much easier than remembering the pill!

PS: Just like a tampon, when inserted correctly she wont feel the ring inside her, she wont even have to 'get used to it' she wont feel it at all.

Did I put myself at risk of getting pregnant, even on birth control?

I've currently been taking the birth control pill Loestrin 24fe and I'm on my second pack. I have never missed a pill yet and I take them generally around the same time every day, (always at 9:30 pm, but there have been very few times when I've taken it maybe an hour later, which my Dr. had told me is actually fine because I take combination pills...they don't have to be taken at the EXACT time every day.) So I'm on my second week into the second month, took the pill every day, general same time, and I am sexually active.

Two nights ago, I was stuck in the very bad Transformers movie which was TOO long, so I ended up taking my pill around 10:15 or so. My boyfriend and I then had sex in my car about an hour later, and he did ejaculate inside me. It wasn't until the next day I started worrying if I technically had sex on a SKIPPED day because I took the pill not too long before we had sex. Is this something I shouldn't worry about or did I put myself at the risk of becoming pregnant because I didn't wait long enough to have sex after taking the pill? :/ Again, I have NEVER missed a pill prior and I have not gotten pregnant while on it, but I have never had sex almost immediately after taking the pill until two nights ago. Feedback will be appreciated to settle my nervousness. :[Did I put myself at risk of getting pregnant, even on birth control?
You did NOT miss your pill that day. It's the same rate of effectiveness as far as combination Birth Control pills go: 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Relax, you are protected. If in doubt, call your Gynecologist.Did I put myself at risk of getting pregnant, even on birth control?
It's probably fine, you were only late by 45 minutes. Just don't let it happen again. Try setting an alarm on your phone to remind you to take the pill. That's what I do and I've never missed one or taken one late.

Used correctly birth control pills are 99.9% accurate in protecting against pregnancy so there's always a risk but it's a very minor risk.
I was told by a doctor that its safe to take the birth control and have the guy use a condom. That way your extra protected. If your really not that ready for the accident then simply don't have sex. Wait until you have enough money for the basic stuff. You can have a baby shower and buy stuff cheap at second hand stores.
soooo, you were 45 minutes late taking it? You should be perfectly fine, no need to worry. It's about the same risk as usual, just hope you don't fall into that .1 percent. My partner and I rely purely on the pill as well, it's bad practice to be late but even 2-4 hours isn't a HUGE deal. I just don't recommend it. Some doctors still say not to count on it alone until you've been on it for three months, so be wise.
If you didn't actually MISS the pill, just took it a less than an hour later than usual, you should be OK. I take the same pill, and my gyn said that taking it within about an hour window of time is fine.
even if your on birth control, then there is still a rare chance of getting pregnant. It's hard to tell .. only abstinence is 100% affective
No you are fine don't worry about it.

What is the risk of me getting pregnant on birth control?

Me and my boyfriend have recently stopped using condoms, and I've been on Aviane for about 2 months (I start my second period since on the pill tomorrow), and we've both been tested for STDs and we know we're clean. I just wanted to know the percent chance of me getting pregnant while on birth control, and if it's necessary for us to continue using condoms anyway?

as an added note: he pulls out anyway, but we both know about pre-*** and the risk of getting pregnant without condoms or birth control, etc. we've looked into this before. What is the risk of me getting pregnant on birth control?
When used correctly, oral contraceptives have a very high rate of effectiveness, around 94-99%. This means that if 100 women took birth control pills as directed for 1 year, 1-6 of them would get pregnant. Couples in monogamous relationships with no risk of sexually transmitted diseases don't have to use condoms in addition to birth control pills. Condom use might put your rate of effectiveness closer to 99%. Nothing but abstinence is 100% There is no real reason for him to pull out either unless it is your own personal preference. When couples have sex with no birth control method, there is about a 20-25% chance that pregnancy will occur. With the pull out method, there is about a 35-40% chance of pregnancy, so not too much better than using no birth control at all. What is the risk of me getting pregnant on birth control?
Its all down to statistics, even without any contraception only 85% of sexually active women will fall pregnant within a year. Simply add extra levels of protection to the point where you are comfortable. For example you can reduce the risk to 1 in 500 women each year by using the pill (1%) and using safe times (20%) or just ask yourself :

Do I feel l lucky tonight?

and don't forget to multiply the risk by the number of years you are sexually active - the figures becoming quite frighting then!

To your added note: Pulling out is not a good method, sperm can be released before ejaculation and the most potent sperm are in the first 1ml spurt plus you are dealing with a man :)
There should be a little booklet or pamphlet that comes with your birth control pills that will tell you the risk of getting pregnant. With most pills there is less than a 1% chance of getting pregnant if you take your pill correctly - which means taking them every day at around the same time. Antibiotics, certain vitamins, etc can lower the effectiveness rate. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking certain medications to see if they will interfere.

Of course, like Kristen said, sometimes people get pregnant even though they are on the pill. There is nothing with 100% effectiveness, so there will always be a risk unless you don't have sex at all.
It varies pill to pill I think, but for the type I use (Tri Sprintec) there is a 5% chance of pregnancy in the first year of typical use, and a .5% chance with perfect use. I stopped using condoms w/ my boyfriend about two years ago and have been fine, but we are considering starting to use them again - at least some of the time. I think it depends on if you are prepared to deal with an accidental pregnancy. The less prepared you are, the more you should probably do to avoid it. There really is very little risk, but it is there.
The chance of getting pregnant on the pill is slim to none of you take it PERFECTLY. Since this rarely happens, the current stats seem to place the effectiveness of the pill with regular (not perfect) use at about 92%.

If you're worried, use a condom. I've been on birth control for three years and no pregnancies yet.
Used correctly, birth control pills are better than 99% effective. (Less than one pregnancy per 100 women per year.) If he's also pulling out, that would increase effectivess considerably (but also frustrate him).

Since condoms ARE more effective than withdrawal, if 99% isnt' good enough for you, I'd probably stick with the condoms -- unless your boyfriend actually prefers pulling out.
Well, of course, there is always a risk. I got pregnant on Tricyclin. But everyone's body is different. If you truly want to protect against getting pregnant the only way to truly do that is by using birth control and condoms.

    Hope this helps.
as long as you take it correctly its 99.9% effective a person who gets pregnant just doesnt follow directions. so dont listen to some of these people. birth control is the best way to prevent pregnancy if your sexually active. take it the same time everyday. dont miss any pills and dont take it with any other pills, which will effect the birth control from working
Just using the pill is up around the 97 or 98% effectiveness but personally I fell pregnant while on it and am now happily 16 weeks along.
i got pregnant while on birthcontrol, but then again i was taking antibiotics. But my bestfriend got pregnant on birthcontrol taken everyday at the same time. The chances are low but are possible
Most pills have 98-99% effectiveness when taken properly. That means same time every day, never missing one and not having antibiotics.
Well both times that I have gotten pregnat I was on birth control. Nothing is absolutely safe unless of course no sex at all.
    i believe 1-5%

Why do Girl Teens Have to Pay for the Birth Control Pills And Put Their Health At Risk?

When a teen boy and teen girl are dating, its the GIRL that goes to Planned Parenthood and gets birth control pills...She has to pay for them. She has to pay for the pap smear and gyn exam. Also, she has to put her health at risk. BCP raises ones risk of heart attack seven times...It also raises the risk of cervical cancer.

I read an article that explained that the technology is definitely there to develop a male contracetpive pill, but society wouldn't accept it.Why do Girl Teens Have to Pay for the Birth Control Pills And Put Their Health At Risk?
How do you know the guy doesn't help pay? I'm sure many do and aside from that no one forces her,she is told the risks and a lot of couples use condoms as well as the pill.

As for the risks they are very low in a healthy young woman, that is why the health checks are carried out before it is given,to offer as much protection as possible.

Cervical cancer is a risk to ALL women, pill or not and even after the jab, that is why smears are the single most important thing in prevention as they detect changes before they are cancer, have smears and you will be fine,i am 32 and spent about 6 months out of my whole life on the pill and still got cervical abnormalities and had to have them removed, smear tests are the way to go and lots of things increase the risks. Why do Girl Teens Have to Pay for the Birth Control Pills And Put Their Health At Risk?
he should wear a condom anyway to prevent STD's and planned parenthood gives bc free.
so y are you on it?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
How about wait until your married then you wont have to deal with that. DUH!
for some of the other answers, planned parenthood doesn't give out birth control for free, you have to PAY for it. and who says boys don't pay for bc pills or at least pay a little part of it. not all boys are the same. besides, if they don't want to help pay for it, don't give it up to them. or make them wear a condom!
Umm.. planned parenthood gives birth control out for free.
    www.becauseyouareallteenagesluts.com
Thats all free where i live. Ive taken birth control at 14 because of bad period cramps. I am now 22 and dont have any health problems.
Your trying to rally a crowd where there is really no ground. The girl still chooses to go on birth control. The man should still where a condom to prevent STD's. Teenagers shouldn't be having sex. And Planned Parenthood gives birth control and pap smears based on income, which for a teenager is almost always free.

Whats a good birth control pill that doesn't cause weight gain or any serious risks?

And where can you buy it? Without your parents knowing? m not sexually active, i need it for my skin. But the fact that its birth control, my parents think for some reason there not gonna trust me with it.Whats a good birth control pill that doesn't cause weight gain or any serious risks?
All birth controls have about the same risks. They can cause weight gain but no everyone experiences that. And not everyone expereinces serious problems. I generally like the Nuva Ring, it is not something you have to take daily and it you only have to have 1 at a time, the one you are using so you dont have to worry about hiding it. There are many planned parenthood places around that offer birth control and exams for teenagers, I would check to see if you have a planned parenthood place and call for an appointment.Whats a good birth control pill that doesn't cause weight gain or any serious risks?
Unfortunately all birth control is going to come with some risk. But if you explain to your doctor why you are wanting it, then he will be able to recommend one that is just right for you. I know you said your parents were a problem, but I would try and talk to them. If that doesn't work then I would be looking for alternative medicine that would help my face.:)

Does birth control greatly increase risks?

Does bc greatly increase cancer, or stroke, etc? I'm thinking about starting it again after 3 yrs.Does birth control greatly increase risks?
they say it increases the risk of blood clot, stroke, heart attack etc...especially in women over 35 and those who smoke. i am on birth control and i think it is worth the risk to not get pregnant i used to smoke...i didn't/don't even think twice about it. remember...even if it just happened to one person they still have to put it on the side effect/risks label. perhaps look into the occurace of these things, but i would bet they are rare.Does birth control greatly increase risks?
it incresase the risk of blood clots ESPCIALLY if u smoke. if u smoke i woudlnt even go on it. i think it might increase a risk of ectopic pregnancy too
yes it does run some potential risk especially if you are prone to vericose veins and blood clotting. I had to get of b.c. because my legs were very achey and come to find out I had vericose veins and the b.c. had worsened them. So be careful and pay attention to your body.
Yes, it does have risks. That is why I went off the pill. I am now on Mirena, it is a great form of birth control, and it puts out a very low dose of hormone. The risks with it are lower than a lot of the other birth controls out there. That is why my doctor suggested it. Hope this helps in your decision.
Alot depends on your age, if you smoke or not and the strength of the pill. I took Yaz for less than 2 months %26amp; ended up with Deep Vein Thrombosis. Just make sure before you start any b/c to talk with your doctor %26amp; let him/her explain the risks.

  • Birth Control - Switched two of the days. Pregnancy risk?

I'm usually perfect taking my birth control pills but I made a really stupid mistake. I took the pill I was supposed to take on Friday, on Thursday instead. When I noticed this on Friday, I took Thursday's pill (since I didn't know what to do). So basically I switched the pills on two days. I should note that I am on Yaz birth control and close to the end of the pack. So I am wondering if I am now at risk for pregnancy and if yes for how long? Thank you in advance for any help.Birth Control - Switched two of the days. Pregnancy risk?
The hormones are the same, no worries!

They just organize them so it will be easier for you to remember if you took them -that- day. You're fine =)Birth Control - Switched two of the days. Pregnancy risk?
LMAO GIRL NO! YOUR FINE SAME PILL. I DID THAT BEFORE

How real is the risk of blood clots with birth control?

I understand how the risk is higher if you smoke or if you're an older woman, but for some one like me who is a non-smoker (never smoked) and in my late 20s what is the risk? I have no history of blood clots, and I was on the birth control pill for 5 years with no problems before but I've been off it for about 3 years and would like to go back. My sister who is in nursing school mentioned how she recently read how risky they actually really are and it made me think twice now.How real is the risk of blood clots with birth control?
Much less than the risks associated with pregnancy. :)

You are at low risk, but not at NO risk. Discuss birth control options with your gynecologist. Every woman is different. There are so many different types of BCPs now, that I'm sure there's something that will work well for you.How real is the risk of blood clots with birth control?
The most serious complications attributable to birth control pills have been cardiovascular and circulatory system diseases, including blood clots. Clots are particularly dangerous because they can travel to distant parts of the body and relocate in places such as the lungs. However, as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states, in most healthy women, estrogen and progestin together have no clinically significant impact on clotting.

Cardiovascular diseases, including blood clots, are more likely to occur in women who:

    smoke

    are sedentary

    are overweight

are more than 50 years old

    have high blood pressure

    are diabetic

have a history of heart or vascular disease

and/or have an elevated cholesterol level

For most women, these factors are much more important in determining a risk for cardiovascular disease than taking low-dose combined oral contraceptives (the most commonly prescribed birth control pills). These newer low dose pills have less effect on blood clotting than earlier pills, and there is less risk for women who don't have any of the other risk factors listed above for cardiovascular disease. If you have any of the predisposing factors to cardiovascular disease, the combined pill may not be for you. If you don't, the risk from these pills alone is relatively small.
Risk is so low that you should not hesitate.
The risk is substantial and it varies with your genetic make-up. If you have the low-risk gene, your risk increases about 4X with birth control vs. no birth control hormones. If you have the high-risk gene, your risk increases about 32X!

If your doctor's knowledge is current with recent medical research (odds are against this), she could order a simple genetic test to determine which risk bracket you are in.

    Best wishes and good luck.
I took the pill in my 20's w/ no problems, altho I did smoke. At 38 I had the 1st of 3 strokes which could not be attributed to other causes than the pill %26amp; smoking. I ws fortunate to have lost only part of the field of vision in my left eye, %26amp; I have not had another sinceage 41. I quit smoking 5 years later, which certainly has helped. Its hard to say--you may not ever have a problem, but it only takes one. Just a cautionary tale from someone who had been there.
Well I am a nurse, and there is some risk-but it is a low risk. Your Dr. will take an extensive history, and evaluate your risks. If your not a smoker, not a cough potato, and have had no adverse effects before, I don't see why it would be a problem.
I know it is much higher if you use the patch, so use the pill or ring or something else.
In a non-smoker under 35 without preexisting pro-thrombotic tendencies, then the risk is quite low. If you wish to stop taking OCP, then you must first consult your physician.

Does obesity increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding with birth control?

I know obesity increases the risk of pregnancy. However, I'm curious if breakthrough/spotting bleeding is more common. I am not horrificly overweight just about 20 lbs over the recommended high weight. I have been on Orthro-Evra and had heavy breakthrough bleeding almost period like every 2 weeks. I have seen my doctor about this and she switch me to Ortho-TriCyclen-Lo. She told me to start the pill immediately after my last patch not to skip a week. I am still spotting and it is week 2 of the pills and I didnt have my regular period as I would had a waited and had the hormone free week. I didnt have any problems with my periods until going back on b/c. I had taken the patch previously without complication. I'm wondering if it would be better to go off the b/c for a month and allow myself to get back on track and start over. Any suggestions...Does obesity increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding with birth control?
I don't know for sure if it does increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding, but I can tell you my experience with it. I have never been overweight...always in the normal weight range, and I've tried two different types of birth control pills. The first kind was Ortho Tricyclen Lo, and I bled until I stopped taking the pills. The second kind was Alesse, and it did the same thing...I bled until I stopped taking the pills. So, I just figured that my body doesn't do very well with birth control pills. You could try looking into alternative methods of birth control if it doesn't straighten out. Good Luck!Does obesity increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding with birth control?
    I don't know.
