Birth Control and Biphentin, what are the risks?

I've been taking birth control for about a year now, and just started taking Biphentin to help with my school work. I bought the Biphentin from my friend, so my doctor does not know that I'm taking it as well as my birth control. I was wondering, will the mix of the drugs effect my birth control? If so, will the use of condoms eliminate the risk of pregnancy?Birth Control and Biphentin, what are the risks?
you should ALWAYS use condoms! retard. the pill isnt so you dont use condoms, its better butt its way unsafer and you could still get prego.. takin drugs from a friend whiel on other pilsl are dangerous unless prescrived and the doctor knows what woudl happen. ask them. honestly, youre stupid. stop taking drugs from friends, and stick to birth control and condoms!

panda security (available at staples, not sure where else) did wonders as an anti-virus and anti-spyware program for us. it updates daily as well. we had severe failures with both norton and mcaffee, but we've now had panda for 2 years and never a problem.... www.pandasoftware.com and be aware that some of the free spyware systems online actually insert their own spyware (learned that the hard way)
Get Lavasoft Adaware (www.lavasoft.com)

Get Spybot S%26amp;D (http://www.spybot.info/en/home/index.htm鈥?/a>

Run full scans using both problems (may need to run Adaware a few times to catch everything.)

That should do the trick. Keep in mind that if you have any programs that are spyware dependant (most p2p programs) then they will stop working when the spyware is removed.
All the programs listed above, make sure you UPDATE them first before running them. In addition to the advise above, run them in ';safe mode';. Do this by restarting your computer, when your computer is starting tap the ';F8'; key a few times until it gives you the choice to start in safe mode, then run all the anti-spyware programs. Let the programs completely finish their scanning, then trash what ever they find. For help from future problems make sure you are not using Internet Explorer and visiting porn, gambling sites, myspace and other risky sites. To browse the internet make sure you are using either Firefox or Opera to lessen the chances of this happening again.

Good Luck

  • How do birth control hormones cause increased clotting risk?

I know that birth control pills increase the risk of a clot, and I know it's because of the hormones in them (so please don't tell me that estrogen causes clots, I know this.) What I can't find information on is -how- estrogen causes clots. Do they increase the number of platelets in the blood, or do they make the blood thicker in some other way?

My platelet count has always been high, and it's recently (since I've started birth control) gotten higher. I know that makes it riskier to take combined contraceptive pills, but are the pills themselves causing the high count?

I do plan on discussing this with my doctor, but I won't see her for a few weeks and I'm curious to get an answer now.How do birth control hormones cause increased clotting risk?
I found your question to be very interesting so I did a bit of research. This article I'm linking to seems to indicate that it's due to estrogen causing an increase in platelet activity rather than due to estrogen causing an increase in platelet formation:

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200鈥?/a>

This article below explicitly says that the reason for the clotting issue is not well understood: http://circres.ahajournals.org/cgi/conte鈥?/a>

So I don't think you'll get any definitive answer, because no one knows it yet.

However, it does seem that, per the first article, oral estrogen causes clotting while other routes of estrogen do not. this would suggest the Nuvaring would be a better choice for you as birth control--but it's not supported by any definitive studies right now.

I found a couple other articles that suggest platelets are more reactive due to estrogen, because platelets have estrogen receptors on them:

    http://www.nature.com/ki/journal/v38/n6/鈥?/a>

But it's only estrogen receptor beta, not estrogen receptor alpha.

I've been taking Yaz birth control everyday but not at the same time am I at risk of getting pregnant ?

Birth control pills on time, taking pills on time,I've been taking Yaz birth control everyday but not at the same time am I at risk of getting pregnant ?
if you take them the way you are supposed to (around the same time evry single day) you should be fine. If you are having problems remembering your pill at the same time evryday there are other forms of birthcontrol you don't need to take at the same time every day that you may want to look intoI've been taking Yaz birth control everyday but not at the same time am I at risk of getting pregnant ?
No, as long as you take it everyday around the same time. if you take on in the morning one day and one at night than the pill might not be as effective, but if you always take it in the same time SEGMENT its fine. its ok to even miss a day if u forgot or lost it or something. you wont get pregnant from that. use other forms of birth control as well to decrease the chances.

It should be fine to take Singulair and Ortho-Tri-Cyclen together. There are no known interactions between them. However, it does not mean that no interactions exist, if you experience any odd symptoms please see your doctor.

Risks of pregnancy while switching birth control?

doesnt anyone know what the risks of getting pregnant are if my sister switched her birth control? she wants to get pregnant so they didn't use a back up (condom). she's now on alesse from triphasil. she switched because it was being pulled off the market. thanks!!!Risks of pregnancy while switching birth control?
Any BC will say ';use alternate protection the first month';. Depending on what each type of pill does, there may or may not be a risk.

Basically, the pill fools the body into thinking it does not have to grow an egg and ovulate (as happens in the first 2 weeks). It maintains the levels of hormones to tell the ovaries ';we're done ovulating and waiting for a period';. When you stop, or go to the funny-coloured pills, your period starts.

If you switch from one balance of hormones to a different one (some different pills accomplish the trick with different levels of various hormones) you may manage to get into the phase where the ovaries grow an egg to release.

Hmmm... I wonder if her boyfriend was on board with the ';wanting to get pregnant'; thing? Tricking him into being a daddy is not a great start if she's planning a life-long relationship.Risks of pregnancy while switching birth control?
I got pregnant while switching birth controls....so it is possible :p I think I was a pretty small statistic however.

I would use a backup for the first month, then she should be ok. Talk to your doc tho, it may have been because I was switching types of BC as well (pill to the ring)
If she wants to get pregnant then why is she using ANY form of birth control?

What are the risks and benefits of insect birth control through sterilization?

This is a serious question about agriculture please answer it like one or do not at all.ThanksWhat are the risks and benefits of insect birth control through sterilization?
The idea is to release an overwhelming number of sterile insects, which will then mate with the wild or introduced fertile population. The fertile population, having already mated, will then not look for new mates, and therefore not produce offspring.

Tried that with medflies. Two problems:

    a) not all the medflies released were actually sterile!

    b) the sterilized flies didn't fly as well as the fertile ones, and thus were much less likely to mate at all. What are the risks and benefits of insect birth control through sterilization?
The first thing that comes to mind is that we can get rid of a bunch of pesky insects that way -- That is a benefit. I guess a risk would be that those insects may serve a purpose in the natural order of things and we would be taking that link out of the chain, which could cause other issues to crop up later.

Are the lower risks of Franchise organizations worth giving up the freedom of ownership and control?

What are some ways you would be able to find information about this? Are the lower risks of Franchise organizations worth giving up the freedom of ownership and control?
Actually a franchise is still ownership so you still have that risk but what you don't have is control.

The ownership risk is bigger in some ways becauuse rather than just buying premises and equipment you also have to invest in the cost of buying the franchise so your initial investment is higher.

There is also a certain risk in the lack of flexibility of a franchise, for example an owner operator of a burger bar can add pizza to his menu to diversify. A franchise holder cannot deviate from the corporate style and menu.

But the plus to a franchise is that you dont have to struggle for recognition or acceptance as a new business. If you have a McDonalds franchise your sales will be on the corporate style which has been tried, tested and proved over decades.

It is also easier to deal with supplies of a standard product from a single supplier and which lots of management assistance and training provided by the franchisor.

How high are the risks of me getting a blood clot while on the birth control Ortho Novum, ifi smoke cigarettes?

I am 18 years old and i smoke about 5 cigarettes a day, and i am on 1mg of Ortho Novum a day. Are the risks of me getting a blood clot or stroke high? How high are the risks of me getting a blood clot while on the birth control Ortho Novum, ifi smoke cigarettes?
Yea, pretty bad. If you are overweight or stressed a lot your risks are even higher. You need to quit smoking. It increases your risk of cancer, stroke, all kinds of nasty things. It also makes you smell really bad to people who don't smoke. I know you Think you cover it up really well, but trust me, non-smokers can SMELL you coming from 10 feet away.

What are the health risks of going on the birth control pill after age 45?

Depression from not getting full use out of it.What are the health risks of going on the birth control pill after age 45?
There is a higher risk of developing blood clots, especially if you smoke. My friend lost her mother when she was young because of this problem. She was a completely healthy 43 year old woman who had been on the pill for years. It doesn't happen to everyone but it does happen.

Talk to your doctor about other options. IUDs are fairly safe, and there are diaphragms, plenty of other options. Good luck with everything. What are the health risks of going on the birth control pill after age 45?
there r various birth control pills ask your doc for advice.
if you smoke there is a huge risk of heart attack stroke and blood clots, If you don't smoke the risk is lowered but still a risk. You should talk to your DR about a different option. past 40 the risks in pregnancy increase, so if you are done having children tubal litigation may be your best option. (or even better, make your hubby get a vasectomy!! )
    Heart attack and stroke
That will very a lot according to the individual. You should really visit a doctor.
If you're a smoker and on the pill or other hormonal methods, once you reach 35 -- or if you develop heart problems -- you'll need to change birth control methods or quit smoking. (webmd source #1)

What's the risk of smoking if you're over age 35 and taking birth control pills?

Birth control pills aren't recommended for women over age 35 who smoke because it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. If you're 35 or older, and you smoke, you need to quit smoking before you can safely continue using your birth control pill. (Mayoclinic link source #2)

Despite the fact that they are safe for most women, however, BCPs do carry some health risks. For example, if you are over 35 and smoke or have certain medical conditions such as a history of blood clots or breast or endometrial cancer, your health care professional may advise against taking BCPs. Also, birth control pills do not protect you from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), the virus that causes AIDS.

It is best to check with your doctor before taking the birth control pill, just to ensure that you are healthy and won't have any complications.

    Hope this helped. :D

Do you think you relationship is at risk? Are you foreseeing a break? What is the damage control you are doing

What is the damage control you are doing?Do you think you relationship is at risk? Are you foreseeing a break? What is the damage control you are doing
Yes, it was at risk. Mixed signals, he friendly and loving one minute, aloof the next. I started feeling rejected and hopeless.

So I blew it. I became distant. I had chances to ask what he wanted, and try to talk, but I didn't. Eventually when he did try to connect with me, I brushed off his efforts. He just quit calling, and I didn't have the guts to contact him, since I felt like I was to blame.

I regret it all. I should have been honest and made an effort to swallow my pride and tell him how much I cared.Do you think you relationship is at risk? Are you foreseeing a break? What is the damage control you are doing
No....our marriage is as strong as ever.

We've been doing ';damage control'; from the very beginning.....maybe that's why we're not having any problems.
Yes seeing a break, fell for my driving instructor, from then on can`t get the feelings back for my partner of 9 years, very sad situation. : (
I don't think my relationship is at stake and am not foreseeing anything like this to happen (touch wood)

We are in this situation cause from the very beginning we have handled every difficult situation with adjustment and understanding and always one of us falling silent till the other vents his rage.

But in case such a situation arises we should allow silence and time to cool the situation rather than argue. of the two one has to remain silent this would automatically make the other person cool down

later when sense prevails and the heat of the moment passes away everything starts to gradually fall in place and the relationship is back to normal

I feel patience and calm mind can tackle any difficult situation and control any further damage
No damage %26amp; nothing to control.
    No
I am just trying to relax and still not allow myself to be mistereated
In the time I was in a relationship i didn't see it as a risk, didn't even have a clue to the end results it would have...I didn't foresee anything until it was to late. Now am paying for damage it left behind...I mean financially.
well i live in atlanta and he lives in new jersey soooo there might be some problems in the long run
don't think my relationship is at stake and am not foreseeing anything like this to happen (touch wood)

  • Does marijuana have the same health risks as ciggarettes if you are on birth control?

I know my doctor told me the health risks of stroke while on BC and smoking but does that apply to marijuana too? Also does it decrease its effectiveness?Does marijuana have the same health risks as ciggarettes if you are on birth control?
There is no hard research that says weed will decrease the effectiveness of BC. And most of the negative complications from cigarettes are from the vascular effects - nicotine causes your veins to shrink is one major one.

In short, it may apply to weed, but I would bet that any effects it has are milder. I still can't encourage you to do it, but it probably won't kill you, nor let you get pregnant.Does marijuana have the same health risks as ciggarettes if you are on birth control?
    18) Don't children born to pot-smoking mothers suffer from ';Fetal Marijuana Syndrome?''

If a fetal cannabis syndrome exists, cases are so rare that it cannot be demonstrated. Many mothers use marijuana during pregnancy -- it controls the nausea called `morning sickness' and many say it actually increases the appetite and reduces stress. This is especially important in less developed countries, where modern medical care is not as easily available, but even so, the benefits of responsible marijuana use may outweigh the risks even under modern medicine.

Studies conducted in Jamiaca have shown that mothers who smoke marijuana have healthier children, but this may be due to the extra income generated by marijuana dealing and other factors. It has been a common ploy in the War on Drugs to claim that marijuana, and especially cocaine, causes birth defects or behavior problems like alcohol does. This scares caring mothers into thinking drugs are `evil.' The claims are not based on valid scientific research -- many of them do not even consider the life-style or living conditions of the mothers before pointing at drugs with the blame.

Obviously, pregnant mothers should not smoke as much pot as they possibly can. If marijuana is abused, it may hurt the health of both mother and child. Delta-9-THC does cross the placenta and enter the fetus. Oddly, though, the marijuana metabolite, 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta-9-THC does not, and the fetus does not break delta-9-THC down into 11-nor like the mother's body does, so unborn children are not exposed to 11-nor. The third trimester is the time when the child is most vulnerable. Parents should bear these facts in mind when they make decisions about using cannabis.
Any smoking no matter what it is will cause higher health risks. I don't think it deceases effectiveness but it's not worth the health risks. It could cause things blood clots, etc.
pot is just as bad as cigarettes. dont make a retarded baby by smokin up. ull just ruin their life.

What are the risks associated with continuing to take birth control pills after 40?

I've read that birth control pills these days are safer since there are more ';lower dosage'; estrogen pills. My primary care doctor says I should stop taking birth control because I'm now in my early 40s, but my gyno said women can continue to take birth control pills up until their 50s. I'd prefer to stay on them because I know exactly when to expect my period and how long it will last. Any women over 40 getting mixed messages as well? What are the risks associated with continuing to take birth control pills after 40?
BIrth control pills can also cause high blood pressure blood clots strokes and heart attacks especially for women who smoke, or women over 30 the older you get the higher risk you're at, but if arent at high risk for those things i wouldnt worry about it as much, a lot of people take it and never have those problems, but if you do have a higher risk i would consider stopping, but definitely ask your doctor about this stuff too, and decide if the pros are more likely than the cons of taking itWhat are the risks associated with continuing to take birth control pills after 40?
I know that the reason why your Gyno suggest to be on birth control until your 50s because of possible pregnancy. Your cycles are more irregular once you're getting closer to postmentrual and it's hard to count the days, especially if you are sexually active. Birth controls will help to prevent these pregnancies since getting pregnany in late years are not healthy for both the mother and baby. But, birth controls and estrogen pills do increase your chance of getting cancer though the percentage is relatively low. You should weigh your options carefully and find one that fits your needs. Hope this helps.

I want to use birth control pills.is there any side effects or risk of taking them.suggest me.?

i was just 24 now.got married recently.i want to take pills for 2 yrs.i have never used before and iam so scared.please let me know the side effects if any.I want to use birth control pills.is there any side effects or risk of taking them.suggest me.?
it all depends. are you a smoker? any family health problems? what kind of BC are you looking for? The Shot? The Ring? The IUD?

I think what'd be good for you is the BC Patch, it's great.

I've been on a lot of BC's. The only thing I haven't been on is: the IUD, RING and SHOT.

Put on the Patch say on Sunday, keep it on. If it starts to come off put tape on it. Take it off on Sunday(week after) put another on(different spot than before) repeat, and then on the 4th week, leave it off for the week, until you get your period. If you still have your period when its time to put on another WEEK 1 patch, just let the doctor know of it. He/She might put you on Premarin. To stop the cramps %26amp; bleeding.I want to use birth control pills.is there any side effects or risk of taking them.suggest me.?
when my sister used them, she said that she got a little more irritated and sometimes depresed....and some other women say they make you fat. But i think its all in your mind honey, you are going to be allright, remember to always consult a doctor, good luck
it all depends on the pill, your lifestyle, everything. Talk to your gyno, tell them everything!! then the 2 of you can figure out what is right for you. As with everything there's side effects.
The best way to get accurate information about birth control, all the positives and negatives, all the options, is to go to a health clinic, your GYN office, Planned Parenthood, etc. Get the real information, not hearsay. Other peoples experiences are valuable, but educate yourself first.
The pill is great as long as you are good at remembering to take the pill everyday. If your a smoker the pill may cause blood clots and heart problems, but other than that the pill will help with easing the pain of your cramps and make your period lighter and shorter(this will happen over time). I would try Yasmine I'm on it and it works very well.
The only advice I would offer you, is to ensure what other medications you can take whilst on the pill, I am sure that a friend I knew who was on the pill said that taking antibiotics for an eye infection, cancelled out the effects of her pill, hence she became pregnant - should check it out with your GP. Read up about it as much as you can, there are questions to ask, do you smoke, do you suffer with varicose veins, all sorts of questions like that first.
I'm afraid there is a side effect to any pill you take or substance you rub on your skin.

Birth control pills.....and there are SO MANY out there, all have side effects including blood clots, bloating, weight gain, headaches, hypertension, coagulation abnormalities, depression, abdominal pain and cramping, breakthrough bleeding, and the list goes on. Even the devices such as the NuvaRing have side effects, because they alter your hormone production. You are messing with your NORMAL body functions. The ads on the tube that are put out by the company manufacturing the drug make it all sound so wonderful. It's just the pkg. they want to sell you.
I personally have taken the pills and used the ring. The pills caused a slight weight gain (maybe 3 pounds) and cleared up any acne I had. The only thing is for them to be most effective you are to take them at the same time everyday. The first week I used them I experienced some tenderness in my breasts. They also grew a little. I was also slightly irritable and sick to my stomach but it wore off after a week. I switched to the ring because I couldn't always take the pills at the same time everyday. I haven't had any issues with the ring. If inserted correctly you cant feel it and you leave it in 28 days and then take it out for 7 and then put a new one in. All forms of birth control increase the risk for heart attack and blood clots but mainly in smokers. That's why all the commercials say women over the age of 35 should not smoke. The patch has the highest incident of blood clots.
Birth control pills increase the risk of heart attack in smokers, and they can cause cancer.
I used them and was very sick. I threw up all night and my body couldn't get use to them. Most people, however, can take them or the shot.... and are usually fine after a couple of days. Just remember, if you take birth control for two years, it may be more difficult for you to get pregnant after you stop taking them.

What is the risk of getting pregnant if you do not use birth control methods??

Obviously...there is a very high risk of getting pregnant if you do not use contraception...i know that...but i wondered if anyone knew the figures????What is the risk of getting pregnant if you do not use birth control methods??
It will be pretty high. Maybe around 80-90%. Thousands of years of evolution has worked towards perfecting the process of reproduction, so it's not easy to get around. What is the risk of getting pregnant if you do not use birth control methods??
    90%
I have two very healthy children. Never using pills, only other methods. Pills are no good. Only risk is surprise and fear whenever you don`t want to be pregnant / if you are healthy, of course/.
lets just say that if you don't want a baby, and you don't use birth control - DON'T HAVE SEX.

technically you can become pregnant any day of your cycle... although most women have about a 14 day window that is best for pregnancy.

an average woman has a 28 day cycle with the first 5 days being her period. the average woman has a 14 day luteal phase (her window). the first day of the luteal phase is ovulation and the phase ends the day before your period. you can essentially become pregnant during any point in this phase... (there are other statistics, but i'm trying to keep this simple.) to find the day of ovulation, you subtract your luteal phase from your average cycle length... so in this case 28-14=14. you would ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle.... which is half your cycle. so the way i figure - you have a 50% chance of getting pregnant if you have sex and don't use birth control...
I think the inside of my pill package used to show the figures and condoms too, if my memory serves, the time span for the study is 12 months and the pregnacy rate for no method is the control group and is around 80%. Meaning 80% of women who are not practicing any method of birth control will concieve within 12 months.
not that high really, unless you are charting your ovulation and such.

i had unprotected sex for about 2 years with my hubby and no baby, then i started charting and got pregnant on first try

Pregnancy increases the risk of DVT (deep vein thrombosis (blood clots)), developing because of the body's natural tendency to prevent excessive bleeding during childbirth.

Blood clots are the major cause of maternal death during pregnancy.

All pregnant women have a risk of having a blood clot. For a pregnant woman with a factor V Leiden mutation (higher than average risk for a type of clot that forms in veins), the risk increases 7 to 16 times. For women with two mutations, the risk is 40 times higher.

All women have a risk of having a blood clot while taking the pill. For a woman with the factor V Leiden mutation, the risk increases 30 to 35 times. For women with more than one mutation, the risk is 100 times higher.

  • Risks of using birth control to stop period?

Im not sexually active, but i have really heavy periods (also lasting 7-10 days) What are the risks of using BC? Is it true that you might grow a beard from using BC too much? Help!Risks of using birth control to stop period?
Haha no! Birth control pills don't have anything in them that will cause you to become a man.

There aren't any real risks, but if not taken properly and you have sex without a condom then the risk of sti's and pregnancy are high.

There was a lot of speculation about getting breast cancer through the pill, which was proven to be false.

Speak to your doctor or family planning clinic (if you live in the UK) and they will tell you all you need to know.

The first answer is a load of crap.

You will not gain 10lbs, your boobs and bum won't be significantly bigger, the breast cancer scare has been researched further and you will NOT want to eat all the time.

I have no idea where that information came from.

I have been on birth control pills for 4years and have more than enough friends who have been on them for even longer.Risks of using birth control to stop period?
Using BC pills (hormone supplement) will make you:

    1) gain weight (10 lbs) and make your boobs and derriere much bigger

    2) predispose you to breast cancer later

    3) make you want to eat all the time

But you will not grow a beard (only when you take Testosterone)
i dont think you owill grow a beard. if you are scared to take it you should really talk to ur doctor. but i kno that taking birth control increases the chances of getting a blood clot.

Is there any birth control pill with reduced risk of blood clots?

Hi, im 18 years old and i have PCOS (Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome). I have irregular periods, sometimes i don't have one for about 5-6 months and then when i get my period it is really heavy and painful. I also have excess body hair and this really gets me down because it seems to be getting worse. I have heard that if i went on the pill, my periods would become regular and it would help with my excess hair, is this true? The problem i have with the pill is that i am disabled and i am confined to a wheelchair and cannot move my legs and do not have much movement in my arms. My G.P was worried about putting me on the pill because of the risk of blood clots so he sent me to see a specialist and even they can't advise me. What can i do? Does anyone on here know of any pill which has reduced blood clot risks? ThanksIs there any birth control pill with reduced risk of blood clots?
    iya babe,

my ex partner was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and told she wouldnt b able 2 become pregnant even if she wanted.

at the time she was 26 with irregular periods (15-25 days) and quite heavy. body hair wasnt 2 bad as its tastier shaven but she had some facial (top lip/chin) and had been on the pill for a few year. anyway...after trying for a baby for 6 month she became pregnant and we had a lovely daughter, as for reducing your hair growth, i dont no if you can but she used a hair lightener on arms and removal cream on the lip n chin. the periods were still painfull and used 2 take co-codamol.

get your partner 2 shave you babe, i wud.

good luck, hope i may help.

colin xxIs there any birth control pill with reduced risk of blood clots?
I think all the pills have a slightly increased risk of blood clots due to the hormones! =(

My friend has PCOS and uses a NuvaRing which she likes, that has hormones too, but it just goes in your vagina by your cervix, not like the hormones go directly into your bloodstream. Maybe that would be safer? You could ask about those. I do know it hasn't helped with her body hair much though. =( Sorry! Good luck!

How serious are the risks of a 50 year old woman taking birth control?

Since my friends monthly friend is so heavy, the doctor wants her to have a hysterectomy, but she won't. She thinks birth control will be better to stop the heaviness. Is 50 too old to be on birth control due to side affects? How serious are the risks of a 50 year old woman taking birth control?
Most doctors will not allow women over 40 to take birth control because of the risk factors associated with age. I don't think a hysterectomy is necessary either unless her bleeding is that serious. Maybe she could talk to her doctor about other options or seek a second opinion. How serious are the risks of a 50 year old woman taking birth control?
Hi, sorry i'm a day late on answering.

There's got to be something else going on with your friend that birth control would not fix, otherwise her doctor would have certainly recommended this first. One of the many things going on could be fibroids growing in your friend's uterus. Fibroids are minimally effected by the pill, so it would not help at all. If she has fibroids and seems far away from entering menopause (fibroids tend to shrink in menopause) then her doctor probably would have recommended a hysterectomy. There are other ways, but none of them permanent, to get rid of fibroids. Only a hysterectomy would make sure they are gone for good and not coming back. All other methods would only be a temporary fix.

But, since your friend is already 50, the temp fix might just be enough. Your friend is close to menopause. So I would recommend she speak to her doctor one more time to really make him understand her thoughts on the matter. If he is adamant, then she should go for a second opinion for sure, before doing anything.

Does taking birth control pills increase my risk for heart disease?

There is a low risk of heart disease associated with birth control. Other risks include weight gain, sensitive skin (such as sensitivity to the sun, and dryness), and blood clots, which could break away and travel to the lungs or brain possibly causing death. Smoking, and not getting enough excercise (like people on bedrest) can increase your chances of getting a blood clot.Does taking birth control pills increase my risk for heart disease?
    Definitely yes.

Side Effects of Birth Control Pills

Some women have side effects when taking birth control pills. If these side effects last for more than three months, talk to your doctor about changing to a brand of birth control pills that contains a different dose of hormones. Don't stop your pills without consulting your doctor and starting a new method of birth control. Side effects may include:

    nausea

    bloating

    headaches

    breast tenderness

    bleeding between your periods

    decreased libido

Very rarely, birth control pills can cause non-cancerous liver tumours. If you experience persistent pain in your abdomen while on birth control pills, you should see your doctor.

Blood Clots and the Risks of Cardiovascular Disease

Birth control pills that contain estrogen can increase your risk of having blood clots. This is a small risk for healthy women. Women who are at increased risk of cardiovascular problems, such as women over 35 who smoke, or women with high blood pressure increase their risk of heart attack or stroke if they also take birth control pills. They are often advised to use another method of birth control. Estrogen-containing birth control pills are not recommended for women who have or have had:

    blood clots

    heart disease

    stroke

high blood pressure greater than 160/100

    severe migraines

    heart defects

Some women with diabetes may also be at risk. They should discuss their condition with their doctor prior to being prescribed birth control pills.

    Birth Control Pills and Cancer

There is no evidence that the birth control pill causes cancer. In fact, they have been shown to decrease the risk of getting ovarian or endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterus). There is some evidence that women taking the pill have a slightly increased risk of breast cancer while on the pill (1.4x their risk if they weren't on the pill). However, the risk gradually goes back to normal after stopping the pill so that if it has been more than 10 years since you took birth control pills, your risk is not greater than the risk for a woman who never took birth control pills. Women with breast cancer should not take the pill, since hormones might affect the growth of tumour tissue.

    Birth Control Pills and Pregnancy

No studies have shown that taking birth control pills harms a pregnancy, however women should stop taking birth control pills if they learn they are pregnant. Birth control pills do not harm a breast-feeding infant. They are not recommended for breast-feeding women, however, because hormones can reduce milk production.Does taking birth control pills increase my risk for heart disease?
I recommend reading the warning labels very carefully. Birth control is like using pesticide on your body. Be careful what you're getting in to.
Yep. It also increases you risk for blood clots and stroke. All of these risks are greatly increased by smoking.
no, heart disease is not one of the side effects
It increases your chances of blood clots, which can lead to a stroke. Read the information inside the package or on the website for whatever pill you take/consider. You can find the risks, side effects, etc there.

Ok my friend had sex with out birth control ... but her boyfriend iend used a condom so is she at risk to be p?

yeah i think that condoms only work about 90% of the time. but unless it came off or something than chances are she'll be fine.Ok my friend had sex with out birth control ... but her boyfriend iend used a condom so is she at risk to be p?
If he used it properly she's not pregnant nor will she be.Ok my friend had sex with out birth control ... but her boyfriend iend used a condom so is she at risk to be p?
I'm not sure what this says.... what grade are you in, and is it in English??

If your female had sex, she risks pregnancy. If she had unprotected sex, she is likely pregnant. sex = babies. Unprotected sex = babies for sure. If they used an already used condom?????(is this what this says???) then this would be regarded as unprotected sex, and your friend is likely pregnant.
She could be if the condom broke or if it fell off.
Anytime a penis goes into a vagina there is risk for pregnancy.

Although condoms are supposed to be 99 % effective, she should get a pregnancy test to calm her nerves.
Anytime you have sex, there is a huge chance that you are pregnant, birth control, condoms...any of those only limit the chances. Lots of women get pregnant while on birth control and using condoms, my best friend is proof. If you have sex, you are at huge risk at becoming pregnant. Sex is to make babies and enjoy with your husband/wife.
always a small risk. Tell her to take a test when the time comes if she's concerned.

  • Yaz birth control, am i at risk?

I've been taking yaz birth control for a while now. ( im anemic and my doctor recommend i take them to keep from fainting during my periods) At first i was really good about taking the pills everyday. But after a while i got lazy and i started forgetting to take them. If i missed a day or two i would just take the pills i missed on the day i remembered. For instance, if i forgot thursday friday on saturday i would take thursday fridays and saturdays all in one day. Is this bad? Can it cause any serious damage?Yaz birth control, am i at risk?
2 on one day doesnt make up for missing it. You are unprotected.

If you are having sex you are at a huge risk for pregnancy if you keep up like that. You might want to consider getting depo or something thats once a month or every three months. Doing it at the same time every day is essential, not just recommended.Yaz birth control, am i at risk?
You should read the information that comes with your pill. If you miss two pills, you should take two pills the first day you remember and two pills the next day. Just read that little packet that tells you what to do about those problems. It won't cause damage, but that isn't how you should handle missing pills.
idk about risks...but if you have sex, you can become pregnant. i found that when i was on yaz, and i missed pills, i also missed my period...but it is different for everyone! so don't be frightened if you miss a period, unles you are having sex!

Which birth control has the least risks and side effects ?

please don't say abstinance. I'm trying to decide which to get but i'm scared with all the side effects. I'm sure i'll get one, thats why i'm trying to c which is the best and has the least risks

thnx.Which birth control has the least risks and side effects ?
lol DEPO provera is NOT the drug for you, as many women have a lot of serious side affects and health risks.

If you go to http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-con鈥?/a> and check out the reviews you can get more information on birth control methods.

I am now on Kariva after hell on depo, and I love it. NO side affects (they were horrible on depo!) whatsoever.

I would never ever recommend depo for anyone.Which birth control has the least risks and side effects ?
they all have around the same effects
All medication has risks. What you have to do is weigh the risks and the effectiveness.

Things like Yaz and ortho tricyclen lo have lower doses of hormones, and are therefore less invasive. They're not as dependable--by a SMALL statistical measure--as depo-provera, ';The Shot.'; I use the shot because it's once every three months--so I never forget--and it's 99.7% effective. It can cause problems with calcium absorption, but usually only in people who don't eat well. I supplement a little extra calcium, and I haven't had any problems.

Talk to a doctor, as each medication will affect you differently. If you smoke or drink, or if you weigh over 200 pounds, things change as well.
my doctor recommended Althea. It has good effects on me. Accdg to her it has virtually no side effects other than getting nauseous for the first month like ur pregnant and gain a little weight. I gain a little weight. It's fine. I can sweat it out. I look ok. My skin is getting smoother too.
i use Yaz. it works great for me. when my period starts, i barely feel like i'm on it, and it lasts for about two days. the only problem i have with it is it makes me a bit naseous from time to time. but if i eat a lil something, i'm fine. i highly recommend it.
Many like the pill, the shot, and the patch carry virtually same risks and side effects because they contain the same hormones. So just go with the one that's most comfortable and easy for you to use. If you're forgetful then the pill is not the way to go. I've had the pill and the shot and I didn't have any noticeable effects from either. They've got the new IUD that is put in place by your doc. I think it lasts a few years at a time. I haven't tried it but I'm sure it does have risks involved because nothing is perfect. Try the shot and see how you like it. It's easy beccause it's only every 3 months. I didn't get any weight gain or nausea from it.
i am on depro provera. it's a shot you get every 3 months. it has the least weight gain, no period after so long. very high percentage like 99%. sede effects and risks are headache, fatigue, and you need to take a calcium pill to avoid osteprosis

First answer NO! breast cancer is not a higher risk factor.

But having said that before taking up the contraceptive you need to discuss a family history of illness and diseases.

If you look on a few birth control web site, they list the risks. I'd try to tell you what they are but there are actually quite a few. They are VERY rare though!
    no not at all :)
The only serious side effect is an increased risk of blood clots, which is mainly in women who smoke. Still, very few women get blood clots even if they smoke and are on the pill, and out of those, very few are life threatening. There was some speculation that the pill could increase the risk of breast cancer, but now the evidence suggests there is not a correlation.

What are the risks and side effects of the birth control shot?

I heard that 1 person had 2 get a hysterectomy(??) after she was on it, and 1 girl was on the shot 4 a couple yrs n now shes havin cervical problems? does n e 1 know if that could possibly be from the shot? What are the risks and side effects of the birth control shot?
Yes it could be. I am no medical expert - but my own child was on this frickin' shot - she didn't have her monthly cycle anymore after 6 mos, then at age 24 she had a small area of cervical cancer that WAS CAUGHT in time and had to be scraped. So far all is well. It messes with your cycle until your body get's used to it - cramps can be worse blah, blah blah - honey - check out the net and the types of shots - my daughter blew up like a balloon - too much estrogen - I was stunned!! In 3 months she went from 110 to 145 - all due to a frickin' shot!!! I believe the cancer that was there was because of that shot!! And I believe her damned dumb Doctor used her as a guinnea pig just to see the side effects. She is now 28 and all is well - THANK GOD!!!! PLEASE CHECK OUT!!!!!! Semper FiWhat are the risks and side effects of the birth control shot?
I did the shot for a lil over a year...yes it was great at times, but I would NEVER do it again. It made me very emotional...all the hormones at once. Also, I never had my peroid, but I would sometimes spot for weeks (annoying!!). I also packed on the lbs!!! I also had a mild case of cervical cancer and it had to be scrapped out!! My Dr. wont even give me the shot and doesnt reccomend it anymore to people! Try another method!!!
I was given the Depo-Provera shot by a male gyno, to control a DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleed). I believe it flipped me from having low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) to high blood sugar (diabetes). The paperwork said not to give to diabetics, cause it raises the blood sugar.

It is my belief that whatever diabetics can't have, hypoglycemics should not have either. I ended up getting a D%26amp;C for the DUB, and it still came back. I went to two different (female) doctors - got tested - found out the cause of the problem - and have not had a DUB since. My problem was low progesterone, due to high testosterone. I got some wild yam cream from my health food store, and it takes care of it. (Use only when necessary).

How can physical play help children assess risk in a safe and controlled environment?

Children must always be carefully supervised to ensure their safety. However, it is also important to let children develop their physical skills by joining in with more challenging activities or using more advanced equipment. This will help them to learn to assess risks for themselves in a controlled environment where you are on hand to help ad guide.

You can alert children to risks beforehand through warnings and discussions This will help you to avoid over- protecting the children in your setting.

  • Risks of starting Birth Control before period?

I missed my period this month, and no it's not pregnancy, and I'm 19, so I doubt it's an age issue, seeing as my periods have been regular for awhile now.

I just got bc, but I don't have my period, and I've missed it this month, I'm 99% sure it's from stress/working out, since I just started working out this month. anyway.

whats the risks in taking my birth control before my period?Risks of starting Birth Control before period?
There are no risks, but it really screws up with the hormones. They want you to wait due to scheduling issues (for example, so you don't get your period during the weekend) and also so that your menstrual hormones are out (and you're not putting extra hormones in and screwin' it all up).

Starting it earlier will not help you out any...it is just best to wait. Since you're waiting on your period, it sounds like you are very close to starting so best to just do so.

However, there are no risks involved in starting early.Risks of starting Birth Control before period?
Nothing much other than you may get irregular/spotting bleeding and it will take longer to become effective.

No, all the pills contain the same thing. And your body doesn't know what day it is.

What's the risk of taking control at work?

I work as a telemarketer and I have this one beautiful but angry at me coordinator woman, you know. I tried to show her, she shouldn't act into my direction the way she does - upset, mobbed and so on - and today I began to think of replacing her by my proposal at work.

    Should I do it.

What's the risk of being rejected by our two chiefs? I'm really confused, cause she is a person who dislikes me personally. I hate her ....

    Any ideas?

Ps. Don't try to tell me I should rethink and calm down (chillout). I can't cause she makes bad quotes about me everyday at work. Even when I must go from work to the city centre to finish something, she asks ';What for?';. And I say ';I can't tell you, it's private';, so she say's ';You wasn't 3 times this month for 2 hours';.

And I said ';Yes. Do you remember? I have 5 days of my free time, so be happy I didn't used it before, cause I would like to make more contracts for our group';.

    THE END

I went anyway for 1 hour.

I'm really angry about her. I know she isn't educated that well as I and she doesn't have the ability to motivate our crew ;((

especially meWhat's the risk of taking control at work?
it's a telemarketing job why are you so stressed over it?

i hardly think you want that dead end job for the rest of your life..

just relax, and don't get into her ways, imagine when you leave that job for something better you don't ever have to see that ***** again right?

Do all birth control pills have a big risk of breast cancer????

Only ones with estrogen. So if you end up using progesterone-only pills or contraceptive such as the shot or implant, then you don't have such a high risk.

The three big causes of BC are estrogen production, genetics and environmental exposure.Do all birth control pills have a big risk of breast cancer????
    nope

the newer kinds can actually prevent some of it.

Does your risk of gettin pregnant go up if u dont take you birth control everyday at the same time because my?

my breast just started leaking i had a baby 5months ago and i never breast feed and they leak slowly every once in awhile and i was wonder if that was a sign of maybe being pregnant????Does your risk of gettin pregnant go up if u dont take you birth control everyday at the same time because my?
    It could be.

    Have you had a period?

Since I started leaking at about 10 weeks pregnant.. I'd say it's ver possible that you are pregnant.

And that guy is wrong ^^

    =|

**Oh, and I got pregnant on birth control.. So yes again it is possible!Does your risk of gettin pregnant go up if u dont take you birth control everyday at the same time because my?
i got pregnant while taking birth control on time every single day. i couldnt breast feed because lack of nutrients in it and i dried up in only a couple of weeks.
they are leaking because you never breast fed. You are not pregnant

What are the risks of birth control?

My doctor recommended several brands of birth control pills to me on my last visit for shorter periods with less cramping (and the birth control part of it would be nice too)...

but I have seen the commercials and been on the websites of some pills like Yaz, etc. and seen the really severe side effects (like the first ones listed: heart attack and stroke).

I am REALLY worried about these possible side effects, but some of my friends are on the pill and only one has experienced hives when taking it.

Should I take it, is it worth it?What are the risks of birth control?
The packet has to carry those warnings about possible side effects, the list is long but so is the list of side effects for your average packet of pain killers if you look. Its so the drug company can't be sued for not informing you of a possible problem, even if only 1 in 100,000 women develop this problem.

As long as you have no family history of deep vein thrombosis (clots) then the pill should be perfectly safe for you, millions of women take it every year with no problems, its a very safe method of birth/period control. What are the risks of birth control?
There are some pills that don't have those side effects.

They are called the mini pill, although for some reason the implant which uses the same hormone has a high risk of heart attack etc, to the point that they tell you to take it out if you are going to be inactive. =O

It depends on yourself. They are rare but it has to happen to someone, and it does. The reason that is a side effect is that estrogen in particular causes the blood to be more likely to clot.

The risks are worse if you smoke, are obese or are over 30 but still exist in younger women. There are lots and lots of side effects, from weight gain (lik 30bs sometimes) to depression and suicidal thoughts, mood swings, nausea, changes in bleeding, etc etc.
i believe the stroke and other things are if u smoke and over age 30? dont hold me to that but pretty sure my sister takes pill and works great for her i used to recieve the shot and worked great. also my sister in law got the 10 year thing.not sure how that works lol but she hasnt had problems. ask your doctor best bet and let him know everything so he can tell you the good and the bads. Good luck!
not a lot of women get side effects..thats just something they warn you about just in case..i think the only bad effect on birth control is when you get off it..you period will be very heavy..and the cramping will be bad..im on it now and im fine..i think its worth it because then you know that your 99.9% safe on not having children @ a young age..i think youll be fine..heart attacks really only happen when your over the age of 35
like any medicine/drug, there will be side effects but i think it's worth it..my cramps are sooo much better now and the shorter periods are great..i don't recommend Yaz though..it made me cramp all the time and made me more moody..but that's just my opinion.. i'd stick to a birth control that's been around for a while
dont take it!!!!!! theyre not good for your body what theyre tellinng your body is not to menstruate. thats not normal or healthy. and it can affect when you decide to get pregnant..or if you can. my sis was on it and she got sists in her ovaries and stuff. its just not healthy.dont do it

    ';no glove no love';

hahah keep that in mind instead

    What are birth control risks?

    hi

ok so to make a long story short, im 15 and i am going to be starting birth control soon purley for period and ovary pain purposes. My doctor is going to be starting me on them in the next couple of days but i am a bit worried because i am not the best at remembering to take pills everyday so what i want know is:

what are the possible side effects if i miss a day or more?

Also what are the general risks for just taking birth control?

    Thanks!What are birth control risks?
Maybe it would help if you put the pills on your night stand and took them at bedtime every night. That is how I always remembered. Or you could set your phone to ring at a certain time every day to help you remember. If you miss one pill, take two the next day. If you miss two in a row, take two each of the next two days. If you miss three or more, your period may start, and you can just start a new pack on the Sunday of you period. If you should become sexually active and miss three or more, use condoms until 7 days into the new pack.

Since you are only 15, the usual side effects of blood clots, heart problems, etc., probably won't be anything you should worry about. You can go to the website for your particular pills and read all of the risk information on there or there will be a pamplet with them that will answer your questions.

    hope this helps..

What Are the Risks of Various (Medicinal) Birth Control Methods?

I am currently on the Depo shot, which I get every three months. But I have been told by a friend that, if I'm on it too long, it can harm my ability to have children in the future. Since I'll be in college for at least another two years and want to start a career before I have a kid, I'll probably be on birth control for another two years or so. What is the safest method (patch, pill, or shot)? I already have my reservations about the patch (due to irritating side-effects my sister had) and the pill because I'm afraid I'll forget to take it. But, if I must, I'll give them a shot. Also, would it be a good idea to periodically switch up methods or something? What Are the Risks of Various (Medicinal) Birth Control Methods?
Seriously its best to ask a medical professional about issues like this, they have more info than your friends or random yahoo users. Your health is too important to mess around with. What Are the Risks of Various (Medicinal) Birth Control Methods?
You won't be sterile, but you may have problems conceiving.

I know of people who got pregnant ON the shot, immediately after coming off the shot, and some who had to talk to a fertility specialist. SO it all really depends on how much damage it has done to your body.

TOO many women have too many negative experiences on the depo shot that I would not recommend it for anyone to use.

I myself was on it for four years and I am so glad I am off of it. The side affects were horrible.

I am very forgetful, but I use Kariva (pill) and have not forgotten it yet. Use yahoo calendars to text your cell phone, or email you, or use your watch to set a certain time to take them. Or use your cell phone calendar to go off at the same time each day.
the depo shot is risky stuff. im on the mini pill which is similar but less risky.

What are the risks of installing Active X Control to load pictures onto Facebook?

I'm wondering this because loading 127 pictures in intervals of 5 with the simple uploader will take all day. Has anybody gotten a virus or noticed their computer slowing down after they installed Active X for the quick uploader? What is Active X and is it harmful to computers? What are the risks of installing Active X Control to load pictures onto Facebook?
ActiveX is a browser component that lets the web browser execute programs and manipulate data on your computer.

When you install an ActiveX object, there is usually a signature (e.g Signed by Microsoft.Inc) that tells you which company made it.

If you see that the component is made by a company other than Microsoft or a major corp, you should probably not install it.

I have hpv and i am taking low dose birth control pills..does that give me a bigger risk for cancer?.?

should i stop taking the birth control pills i am on loestrin 24 fe..are theyr any advice in using another method of bc? i heard that the combination of having hpv and using birthcontrol pills gives you a greater risk for cervicle cancer... what should i do.I have hpv and i am taking low dose birth control pills..does that give me a bigger risk for cancer?.?
where ever you heard that.. thats a bunch of ****! i have hpv, had it for over a year, and my gynocologist knows it and he prescribes me birth control.. dont worry, and dont stop taking ur birth control. there are only certain types of pv that cause cervical cancer, and if you are getting checked regularly(every 6 months to once a year), with a pap and pelvic exam, and they come back normal, you are perfectly fine. having hpv doesn't effect anything if ur taking birth control or make u more caceptable to cancer. so dont worry hun, ur totally safe

  • Are you aware of the risks associated with birth control?

I asked why is abortion ok as a form of birth control and some of the responses I got were along the lines of ';what happens if the condom breaks'; or ';what if you are on the pill and you still get pregnant';.

So my question is, how many of you are aware that all forms of birth control are not considered 100% effective?

Should taking or using birth control mitigate the responsibility of the parents? Are you aware of the risks associated with birth control?
it could possibly. i know a few people who got prego on the pill, and you can develop problems like not being able to have children, that it messes up your reproductive system. its reall considered 96.4% affective after 2 months of using it everyday, and when using condoms when you arent using them it is about 94.7% affective. so i hope i helped. Are you aware of the risks associated with birth control?
i think they are two completely different issues-

birth control- PROPER birth control should be taught, however i find it largely hypocritical that the same opponents of abortion, are also opposed to birth control.

and while birth control is not 100% effective, a large reason for this is that most of the ';failures'; of birth control are due to improper use. combined methods such as condoms and birth control pills (probably the most common combo) are so damn near close to 100% when used effectively-

why am i saying this- just to throw it out there.

as for birth control mitigating parental responsibility? one has nothing to do with the other.

no one will argue that abortion is not a proper form of birth control- in a single case it might be used as such but for a woman to regularly undergo abortion procedures with the same frequency as she would have her partner use a condom or drop a pill or drop a morning after pill even could pose potential health risks for her.

while any risk to a woman might be miniscule for a single abortion, undergoing the procedure regularly is a different issue.

now anti choice people tend to want to assess blame somewhere and almost seem like they prefer to punish a woman with an unwanted or undesired or an ';oops'; child.

it seems that they are more incensed that she is having sex (and the abortion is to punish that) rather than any claim they make about the fetus' potential life.

the fact is that there is no ';wrongdoing'; to mitigate any responsibility here.

it is not wrong (contrary to certain misguided religious beliefs) to have sex.

therefore the result of any sexual encounter can't be ';mitigated';.

abortion is simply the right for a woman to chose control over her own body over the rights of a zygote. and at what point do those rights shift due to development of the fetus (if at all).
Put it this way, I have three children already-three children we planned for and tried desperately to have- and do not want anymore. I'm happily married and enjoy frequent sex with my husband. I'm not willing to give that up because of fear of pregnancy so I had my tubes tied. Since we made the decision TOGETHER that we do not want anymore children my husband also had a vasectomy. If by some medical oddity I happened to get pregnant, I would RUN (not walk) to the nearest abortion clinic. I'm a diabetic in my forties and I do not want any more children and NO ONE is going to force me to have them. If I were not able to have an abortion I would do everything possible to induce a miscarriage and I would not think twice about it. Before I had my children I could never foresee an instance where I would consider having an abortion, but I'm older and wiser now.
    Yes, of course.

The parents on birth control are more responsible than those who aren't. They have taken means to prevent pregnancy and it is purely by accident that a pregnancy has resulted.
If they're having an abortion because a condom failed and they're not prepared to be parents I'd say they're displaying responsibility, not a lack of it.
Not at all. The risks of birth control are great in number, but their use does not in any way expunge a woman's responsibility. If it comes to that, then the responsible choice must be made. Also, the pill if taken after becoming pregnant can have devastating effects on children and mother alike.
Are you aware that Birth Control medicine has advanced even farther in the last 10 years?
Better the risks of Birth Control than the risks of childbirth, you axe me.
ive never had a condom break...so far.

none are 100% effective, so what?

im dying to find out what your point is.........
Given that rape exists, neither is abstinence.

Do i have to be a certain age to use birth control ,,and what is the risk of using it.?

ps,,i;m 16Do i have to be a certain age to use birth control ,,and what is the risk of using it.?
No you can be any age. The risks are heart attack, stroke, blood clots and plus plenty of side effects if you don't tolerate them well.Do i have to be a certain age to use birth control ,,and what is the risk of using it.?
no there is no age, and also since it stops your menstral cycle, remember it can make changes for the future, which may be harmful. stopping your natruaral body stages could be a risk!! thats why i just use a condom!! it does not stop erection!! good luck girl. XOXO
the risk is it may not work and the downiside is u have to take it 1a dy at the smae time the next day for 3-5 months and ask your doctor aswlell/
there are also people that are allergic to the pills like me that get great hair loss with them and non pregnant morning sickness even with the weakest strain
I don't think there's no age limit. But it's probably best if your over 12. The risks...I haven't used it, BUT i know you can risk cancer, and heart attack, as well as stroke, and sometimes randomly passing out. Though, your period won't be as annoying!

    :)
Since you're 16, your age is fine. I started using birth control at age 14 to regulate my periods and to calm my cramping. I wasn't sexually active at the time. I recommend using the pill to start out with. I personally don't agree with some of these new birth control methods of not having but a few periods a year. I believe your body needs a period every month to clean out the uterus. There's risks with everything you can take. I think the main thing I hear about is not to smoke while using birth control especially if you're 35 or over, which you're not. I smoke and I'm still kickin so..we'll see. If you do get birth control your doctor or pharmacist will explain all of the side effects and risks, although I really don't think theres any severe ones.

** also the girl above me said it stops your period, it does NOT. Not all birth control stops your periods. Like I said in my paragraph above, I don't think the birth control methods that stop your periods are safe at all. I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen, which I've been on since age of 14, and every 28 days I have a period, a normal 7 day period with medium-heavy bloodflow like I always have had.

I'm trying to use the IUD as a birth control but is it safe what is the risk ?

The risk is a lower protection rate. IUDs are only about 70% effective I think, at least that's what I was told in Health class 3 years ago, they might have gotten better since then. There is definately a higher risk of vaginal and urinary tract infections though because it retains a lot of excess moisture ';down there';. Ask your doctor though for the best medical assistance. I reccomend using the Pill as well (I use Kariva, about $5, and I love it). It will regulate your period so you know to try and avoid sexual interaction during your most fertile times just to be on the safe side. You can also try using lubricants/condoms with Spermicide for the best protection. The only thing that is 100% effective is abstinance, but the closer you can get to 100%, the better.

Good for you for trying to be safe!! We need more careful people like you! :-)

PS: I checked the site that Tiffany (below me) posted just out of curiosity and it does say 99.9%. Just always check with your doctor first. Not all forms of birth control are right for everyone, so talk to him/her to choose the one (or combination) that is best for you.I'm trying to use the IUD as a birth control but is it safe what is the risk ?
I have a friend who got pregnant while she had an IUD in. The result of that pregnancy is now 33 years old and the mother of two.I'm trying to use the IUD as a birth control but is it safe what is the risk ?
IUD's are reasonably safe, but not particularly reliable.
i think that the dr will give you all the side effects when before he/she inserts it
I had the Mirena IUD put in place in Sept 2005. There was minimal pain (think period cramps) when it was put in, those lasted for maybe half a day or so. After that, I was feeling fine and have been ever since.

We use nothing but the IUD as birth control and so far, its worked for us. I am so glad I dont have to take a pill every day, get a shot or fumble for a condom when we are doing our thing.

Another great upside to it--NO period. My periods have totally disappeared because of the IUD. They will return once I have it removed.

There are risks to having it put in. It can end up in other parts of your body by going through the wall of the uterus, that is RARE but will need surgery to remove. Check out the Mirena website (already listed in an answer) and that will tell you all about it.
    Here's the site:

I'm pretty sure this is the one you're talking about. I have the same one. They have a 99.9% effective rate, not 70%

No birth control to take every day or worry about forgetting

No fumbling with diaphragms, condoms or creams

    No peeling patches

Only requires an office visit with your healthcare professional for placement or removal

Effective pregnancy prevention for up to five years

No routine to follow once the Mirena Intrauterine contraceptive (IUC) is accurately placed and the threads on the bottom of the Mirena have not changed in length

Additionally may provide menstruation benefits, such as 90% reduction in menstrual bleeding after one year (About 20% of users have no bleeding at all)

Lesser menstrual cramping in most users

    Effective and reversible

    99.9% effective pregnancy prevention

Mirena long term birth control works for up to five years (less, if you choose to have it removed)

Reversible with no loss of fertility*

    Proven safety

Used successfully by millions of women, worldwide, for over fourteen years

    FDA-Approved

9 out of 10 women who use Mirena would recommend it to their friends

    Freedom of choice

Lets you decide when you want to try to become pregnant again

Unlike sterilization (tubal ligation or vasectomy), lets you keep your birth control options open (remember, 25% of women who have tubal ligation regret the decision later)

Easy for your healthcare professional to replace Mirena long term contraception at the end of five years; easy for your healthcare professional to remove early

chica_zarca, the reason I recomend it is because it has a lower risk of pregnancy than any other birth control. I've gotten pregnant on the patch as well as the nuva ring and condoms. I've been on the mirena for 14 months and *knock on wood* I'm not pregnant.

What are the risks if i take birth control pills for my irregular periods?

im 17 , a virgin and its been almost 4 months since my last period my gynecologist put me on birth control ( i start Sunday) abut i heard rumors about women being nauseous, light headed and even lactating! what are the chances that ill run into that? and btw my boobs are like really sore and my nipples, they been like like for a few weeks. What are the risks if i take birth control pills for my irregular periods?
There really isn't that many risks...if you get light headed or see spots, then give your doctor a call and ask about Depo birth control.

It's a shot every three months, and it'll help your periods.

If you have bad effects with regular BC Depo will work.

Good luck! What are the risks if i take birth control pills for my irregular periods?
Im 16, and birth control has been working great for me.

i don't see any side effects, and i ALWAYS know when i get my period.

the only thing is that your boobs will get bigger, and you MAY gain water weight, but that's normal, because birth control is supposed to make your body think you are pregnant.
the risks are the same with all women who take BC pills...it has nothing to do with virginity..BC pills are hormones and once you start taking them ,they do funny things...if they aren't right, have them changed. All BC pills are not right for all women...thats why there are so many.
It's best to ask your doctor. You can also research it on webmd.com

Birth ControlWhat are the risks of birth control and if i'm on the pill does my partner have to still use a condom?
birth control pills are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy..BUT only if the are taking the way they are supposed to...everyday and at the same time of the day...if u cant do that then u better have him use a rubber...if u can then its not necessaryWhat are the risks of birth control and if i'm on the pill does my partner have to still use a condom?
Oral contraceptives, like any thing taken orally, has to pass through your liver. The amount of damage is minimal, but there is a toll taken. Depending on the pill that you are on, the amount of hormones released into your system can vary and effect you emotionally and physically. Also, the pill only protects against pregnancy, not sexually transmitted disease. If, for any reason, you feel that your partner is not being monogamous, use a condom.
If you don't trust your partner then yes wear a condom. But if your in a serious relationship and know that neither of you have anything then as long as you've been on the pill for 2 weeks then No he doesn't need to wear one.
you don't have to use a condom but to have more protection( even more safer) wear a condom. and for a little more protection and spermicide in the condom
there are many risks of the pill weight gain
