Any BC will say ';use alternate protection the first month';. Depending on what each type of pill does, there may or may not be a risk.

Basically, the pill fools the body into thinking it does not have to grow an egg and ovulate (as happens in the first 2 weeks). It maintains the levels of hormones to tell the ovaries ';we're done ovulating and waiting for a period';. When you stop, or go to the funny-coloured pills, your period starts.

If you switch from one balance of hormones to a different one (some different pills accomplish the trick with different levels of various hormones) you may manage to get into the phase where the ovaries grow an egg to release.

Hmmm... I wonder if her boyfriend was on board with the ';wanting to get pregnant'; thing? Tricking him into being a daddy is not a great start if she's planning a life-long relationship.Risks of pregnancy while switching birth control?
I got pregnant while switching birth controls....so it is possible :p I think I was a pretty small statistic however.

I would use a backup for the first month, then she should be ok. Talk to your doc tho, it may have been because I was switching types of BC as well (pill to the ring)
If she wants to get pregnant then why is she using ANY form of birth control?
