Do the pros outweigh the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?

I am concerned it terms of the residue. I have a three year old that plays outside and also a vegetable garden and berry bush. However, I am extremely concerned about EEE and WNV. I live in the northeast where there seems to be enough infected mosqiutos.Do the pros outweigh the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?
Get an electric bug zapper. They work really well w/o the chemicals. We've used one for years and years and it's awesome!Do the pros outweigh the risks of having your yard sprayed for mosquito control?
I wouldn't spray. The residue can cause all sorts of harms. There is now a machine out that attracts mosquitoes by sending out carbon dioxide. They come to the machine and are vacuumed into a mesh bag. These things work quite well. Put it in the corner of your yard, cause you don't want to attract the skitters towards yourself. One of the names of these things is mosquito magnet.

one site rated it an 8 out of 10. I ran across one negative rating for them , but the person wanted ALL mosquitos dead everywhere, and the machine has a limited range. Then so does your spray can, it's limited to your yard unless you have very understanding neighbours.
Bug zappers attract bugs to it, so if you use one, place it at the end of your property not on a deck or patio. Don't spray - not nice to the environment. The advice about stagnant water is right. You might not like this, but put up bat houses, they are simple to make or you can buy them - just use google for instructions or retail sources. Bats will eat tons of them and your balancing nature, not messing it up. If you're on a deck or patio, put out an oscillating fan - skeeters can't land in a breeze.

I live in CT and get mosquitoes the size of crows - believe me, you can't get rid of them.
Get a bug zapper, also you might want to consider the mosquito plants place every so many feet apart.this is a natural repellent.i would keep them out of the reach of your little one.another way to help with those pests is to make sure that there is no places for them to breed.such as stagnant water.go on a search and destroy mission.empty any thing that will hold water, bag anything such as empty cans and dispose of.do this 2-3 times a week or after each rain.anything that can't be moved cover with a tarp so that water can not get in to provide the mosquito's with a breeding place.take care of when you are outside to put on insect repellent.there are peek times during the day to avoid these blood thirsty bad boys.mostly in early morning dawn, and early evening dusk.be prepared to fight these nasty little critters! good luck
There is nothing worth spraying chemicals into the air. Once you've done that, you also risk affecting other creatures, plants and even humans. See a horticulturalist about raising natural plants that detract mosquitoes. Get rid of areas where water may be captured and sittling like old tires, open cans or bottles, buckets, anywhere they might be able to breed and multiply. That's a lot more safer and longer lasting then spraying.
