Are athletic smokers still at risk for negative side effects from birth control pills?

I'm extremely active, I play sports and have intense practice twice a day. I smoke cigarettes fairly often, and have recently started taking birth control pills. You're not supposed to smoke while on the pill, but am I still at risk for blood clots if I'm so active? Are athletic smokers still at risk for negative side effects from birth control pills?
Yes you definitely are. In fact, athletic people are more likely to get thrombosis and complications from it, such as when they go on airplanes. So it is worse for you.

The risk is not from inactivity as it usually is with DVT, it is because the hormone pills thicken the blood which may cause clots...out of your control.

Smoking is a ridiculous risk, and nothing you do can possibly undo, or make up for the harm it causes. You are not healthy if you are a smoker, despite what you may think.

Blood clot risks apply to all people who take the pills, smokers have an INCREASED risk (to the point where you are not even supposed to take the pills if you smoke).

But even if you didn't smoke, the risk is still there and can't be avoided. These pills are quite potent and have dangerous side effects.

There are some birth control pills which are called mini-pills. Try those, there is no increased blood clot risk with them. They are recommended for smokers and older people.
