i have a set of 3 remote control plugs. i want to save money but don't know if these will as i am not actually turning the plug off. what should and shouldn't i plug into them

If you mean the devices you plug into the wall, and plug a lamp or something into, to control with a wireless remote, those are usually safe, if bought from a reputable retailer and are properly UL/CSA/ other approved.
