I'm afraid to take birth control because of risk for cancer?

I have not had my period for over a year now. At my ltast appontment my doctor told me that soon she wanted to take tests, and then she might put me on birth control to get my period back. I am very scared of taking it because I heard it puts you at a higher risk for breast cancer. If taking it is the only way to get my period, I have no choice. Is birth control really linked to cancer? Would you still take it?I'm afraid to take birth control because of risk for cancer?
Don't be afraid. Genetics is also a factor determining whether you're likely to have cancer or not, but the risk while you're on birth control is only raised slightly. Once you stop taking it, the risk lowers. But, did you know that birth control actually lowers your risk of getting ovarian or uterine cancers? :-)

If you're still worried, ask your doctor about birth control methods with lower doses of hormones. They're just as effective.I'm afraid to take birth control because of risk for cancer?
yes, because there is only a SLIGHT risk.. but you can get cancer from anything! you have a better chance of getting cancer from second hand smoke or diesel fuel than from birth control. also, if you arent getting your period for a while, something could be seriously wrong, and that is more important since its in the present. and also, im on the birth control shot Depo and I love it. Think about using something other than the pill - they have several other options. ask your doctor
i think this is a discussion that you should be ahving with your dr. it is your decision, but do you think the dr would give you something dangerous ?
