Is there any risk to taking a shot for birth control?

my riend olga is getting a shot for birth control, she asked me if i knew any risks to taking it...but i have never heard any...i've only heard of the pills and the patch_ThanksIs there any risk to taking a shot for birth control?
The risks are the same as for any birth control but the side effects can be horrendous. Urge her to do some research about people who have had bad effects from it. I had one friend who was litterally ill for well over a year from the shots and the docs had no clue. She had all she could do to get of bed every day. They ran thousands of dollars in tests and couldn't figure anything out till I sent them an article about the bad effects that happen to some after getting the shot. She is better now. Yes some people do ok with Depo but have her research it thoroughly before she considers it.Is there any risk to taking a shot for birth control?
Same side effects and possible complications as the pill...increase risk of breast cancer later in life. More importantly osteoporosis earlier in life
Ugh, No! Tell her not to do it. It's one thing I wish I could take back in my life. Depo-provera was the first birth control I used 3 1/2 years ago. I only took 2 shots/ 6 months and in the end, I cried to my gynecologist to find me something else. First, I had the opposite of a period. I bled (fairly heavily) for 3/4 weeks of each month and I would still spot occasionally during my ';free'; week. I also gained about 25 lbs (which I haven't been disciplined enough to lose.) I definitely lost my sex drive too - as I was basically always on my period. I've been on the Ortho-evra patch ever since and enjoy the freedom it gives me. I just put it on every Sunday, then forget about it. I haven't experienced any problems like I did with the shot. I've heard other stories of women gaining up to a 100lbs from staying on the shot for a year. Also, women who use Depo-provera long term experience bone loss. If I had to use the shot again as birth control, I'd honestly either go with condoms or even abstinence.
It can cause infertility and early osteoporosis.
Dont let her take the shot...I took it once five years ago and it messed me up really bad. I gained 60 lbs in three months. I had terrible mood swings, terrible abdominal cramps. They thought I was going through early menapouse. I didnt have a period for months after and when I finally did it was so heavy and painful and it lasted for weeks. Ive never been regular since then. It takes years for it to get out of your system. It can also keep you from having kids for years. Ive been trying to have a baby for 4 years and just now got pregnant. I Really hope she doesnt get it. I would recommend the patch.
Yes NEVER take it it is AWFUL............

I had taken it....

Depression, migraines, continued w/ period for 9months(would've gone longer but i went to ob/gyn),nervousness, mood changes, bloating, hot flashes, decreased(mine increased) interest in sex, breast tenderness, acne, hair loss, and back ache, my whole body hurt to touch(the light touch of blanket about killed me or so it seemed),Stomach pain or cramps, Dizziness,Weakness or fatigue, my cramps felt like a knife jabbing me, I felt like I was dieing.

Other stuff to worry about:

Causes loss of bone density and risk of osteoporosis.

Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

Requires injections every 3 months.

Delay of return to fertility.

Irregular bleeding.

Most women experience weight gain
YES
