I know being on the birth control patch women have had problems that smoke having blood clots and dying even women in their 20's because with the pill you have a up and down hormone level with the patch since it's on for a week it's elevated the whole time. Now the Ortho ring since that is one you use for a 3 week period does that have the same risks as the patch???The birth control patch is high risk of problems due 2 constant high levels of hormones is the ring that way?
You're not quite completely informed.
The patch is on for THREE weeks (one patch per week for a total of 3 per month). Its similar to the ring except that the ring is inserted for three weeks and out one (for the period week). The patch HAS however been recently linked to a dramatic increase in blood clots because the hormone levels have to be so much higher to penetrate the skin %26amp; get into the blood (as opposed to the ring, shot or pill).
Any woman who smokes is at an increased risk of heart attack and blood clots from ANY hormonal BC. If you don't smoke, you're less likely to suffer from this RARE side effect.
The pill - especially ones with a very low dose of estrogen (Lo-Overil, LoEstrin, Ortho Tri-Cyclin Lo, etc) are safer than the older ones and the mono-phasic pills (one chemical all month long) are even better than the tri-phasics (different chemical for every week).
If you're asking for yourself because you're concerned, you should discuss this with your doctor or a pharmacist.
If you don't smoke, are physically active %26amp; healthy, are 40 years old or less, don't have a family or personal history of breast, ovarian or uterine cancers, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, or blood clots, you are probably a good candidate for the pill, shot, or ring. The birth control patch is high risk of problems due 2 constant high levels of hormones is the ring that way?
No.. But I know 3 woman that have tried the ring and has gotten pregnant. With the ring you have to wear it for about 3 months before it starts to work. I am on the patch. It works for me. Most of all your birth control has some side affects. The pill and the patch has a chane for blood clots but it's not as high as you think... It's really up to you..
