Trying to find a birth control method which won't make me feel sick. Thought the NuvaRing would be a good idea since it doesn't go in my stomach, but my nurse said that it has the same risk because it's the hormones that cause the side effects. So what about the minipill? The minipill just has progestogen, any experience with the minipill? Should I just use a barrier method like a sponge or diaphram? I know those don't have any side effects. Any experience with the sponge or diaphragm? Are they easy to use? Are they uncomfortable?Nurse or female-need help with choosing birth control method with low nausea risk?
The ring is supposed to have less side effects, because it releases a constant stream of hormones. Pills can cause your body to have high levels of hormones right after you take them. I haven't had any side effects with the ring. And don't use the patch!! It has the highest amount of hormones, and actually the company is being sued by a group of women who had horrible problems while on the patch. The patch also releases even more hormones when warm (hot tub, sun bathing) and this can elevate your risk of becoming pregnant. My friends have had good experiences with low hormone pills. I would recommend getting either the nuvaring or a low hormone pill, depending on whether you can remember to take a pill every day.Nurse or female-need help with choosing birth control method with low nausea risk?
Use the ring
I have been on BC pills since I was 16 (I am 30 now). I found that when starting a new prescription, the nausea only last 2 to 3 weeks. Recently I was switched to seasonale and had no nausea or other side effects at all. That was a first. Talk to your doctor about that one.
I like the patch, I know several women who use it and havent had any side effects from it although everyone is different. It has worked good and you change it once a week and noone can see it if you put it in a place you wont be showing with clothes on.

I'm on Yasmin, have been for almost 2 years, and haven't experienced any nausea.
I used to have really heavy periods with extreme cramping, too. Now I have barely one twitch of cramping for 5 minutes, nothing more, and my periods are super light and last for two days, but only during the day (I don't have my period at night on Yasmin, for some reason)..... I use 2-3 regular tampons for my period, that's it. I highly recommend it.
Also, I didn't put on ANY weight with Yasmin.... I've actually lost 15 lbs since I went on Yasmin and haven't gained any of it back. I hope this helps! Yasmin rocks!
I am on Depo, I have not found it to have any side affects such as naseau. The Depo shot is taken every 3 months.
Every woman is different though.
If you do decide to go with Depo, be sure to take your calcium supplements as depo depletes the calcium within your body and it unsure as to whether the affects can be reversed.
And an IUD is also a great choice, they don't hurt to get put in. And they are good for a yr. ( well you need to have them checked once a yr ) I don't know of any side affects to the IUD. And apparently they work great.
